American Education System

The education system in America is failing to properly educate the youth. When compared internationally, American students test lower than average compared to students from other countries. And despite the fact that more students go to college now than ever, there is no longer a guarantee that their college degree will get them a job (unlike how they teach people in school that the only way to get a good job is to go to college). In fact, many entry level jobs require a person to have some work experience in their field before they will hire them. But if a person can’t get hired with just a college degree, how are they supposed to get any job experience? Many college educated adults fall into this pitfall, and either end up unemployed or employed in a field completely unrelated to their degree. In addition, with so many people with college degrees, there is now that much more competition in the job market. So, is there a solution?

This is a sad truth, I project trades (electrician, mechanic, plumber, etc) to really start competing with the 200k plus jobs regularly. So much emphasis is put on college now (it is a business) that the jobs can't keep up with the degrees, it is impractical for everyone who gets a degree to think they can all have a cushy desk job. I have a degree in business management and that was a mistake, I should have approached a field specific degree, I do own a business but very little of my schooling is applicable to real life scenarios.

Where I live it looks like we are educating mexico......I went to the local hospital and they have a window with baby pic's of new borns, and out of a hundred pic's I counted 60 latino babys....a few years ago there was only a cupple.....

Things are changing......I don't see a solution anytime soon....Obama took over the student loan program before banks quit loaning money to students.........It will get tougher for students to pay back the loans if they can't get the kind of jobs it takes to do it.......I wonder where these's high paying jobs are going to come from.....I added an extra job at my business this year but most buisness owners I know have not...........It's a another bubble thats going to pop.......

IMO: you have 2 different problems there

1. educating the youth: a large proportion of that problem lies with the parents (and most of that comes from their treatment of the kids before they get to school) teachers can only do so much

this problem is much deeper than your education system

2.degrees leading into employment: yes there is a huge difference between a "qualified person" and someone who's been "working for years in same field" people are very green coming out of college/university

also theres alot of businesses that are calling out for qualified employees yet cannot find them

just because you spent time wasting yourlife learning something that was never needed does not mean you automatically get employed in your dream job

The highest performing school systems in the world are in Asia, and the reason for that is because those school systems invest in their teachers. Those school systems pay their teachers well and regard the teaching profession as one with prestige. They also require their teachers to take 360 hours of professional development each year.
If American students are going to compete in this new innovative and technological society, they have to produce top quality students, and this is not what they have been currently producing. In their current system, teachers are not compensated nor recognized as highly as they should be, and bad teachers are not weeded out of schools for re-training or placed in different areas where they can be more beneficial. Teachers in the United States should be compensated much more than they are today because they have the difficult job of teaching students who come to school with a myriad of issues that complicate the teaching process. Teachers today have to deal with children who are homeless, have various emotional and psychological problems, not to mention the violence teachers face from their students in the classroom.

I'm pretty sure the education system is supposed to be shitty. Just ask charlotte iserbyt or john Taylor gatto. Treating people like they are in prison isn't the best way to spawn creativity.

The nazis had to figure out a way to brainwash the children. the current schools system was the result. The schools are not there to turn out educated critical thinking individuals. It is there to manufacture braindead morons who cant think for themselves, and are perfectly happy following the crowd/mob rules mentality that is so prevalent in todays society.

Too many parents think that their duty is done as soon as a child becomes school age. They somehow think that the teacher will now instruct little johnny on everything he needs to know in life and that the parents only job is to feed, clothe and house the child.

Parents have more effect on a normal child's learning process than any other.

Im sorry, you had asked if there is a solution. No, there is not. We will continue on a downward spiral. the stupid will eventually out number the intelligent, You can see it happening all ready.

The people who were responsible for founding this country would be appalled at what we have let ourselves become. Off hand I cant remember who said it, but, 10 years after the signing of the constitution he could see that it (the gov) was going to become a festering stench of oppression. And It has... Those that dont see it, have never tried running outside of the mob, have never had an original idea in their own heads.

Are you serious? Eastern education/ Asian students attend school 6 days a week. The students are thought to respect and revere their teachers, if not the child is looked at like a disgrace to the family. That's a big no no in Asian culture. And if the Eastern education is awesome why do they come to my country for higher education?

Now teachers in America there is were your problem is, SHIT teachers getting 10 yeard. It is latterly an act of God to get them fired "thank you private unions!" I have had professors dare me to get them into trouble. O, and did I mention they get 90% retirement including their health benefits.

The reason students come to North America is firstly to learn English and second, because the cost of a Uni education here is 1/5 less. Not all Asian countries go to school 6 days a week. A good example is South Korea, Japan, and pretty much everywhere except China. I'm confused because in your last paragraph you seem to agree that teachers and the lack of respect they receive is part of the problem.

Here in AUS a qualfied leco' can make $200k + easliy working in the mines. I hope the emphasis is put on both trade & college (university) as you don't want to end up with a skills shortage especially in trades. I've got a degree i've never used, and I'm halfway through an electrical trade after spending the last decade working with electricity day in day out, but I was never licenced...

The education system has been designed to mold students into "yes men/women" to serve the purposes of governments & corporations. Critical thinking is frowned upon and on subjects that are taboo or outside of the mainstream, censorship is accomplished through concensus. It has become commonplace to attack someones point of view, should that view not jive with the mass media viewpoint. This effectively silences dissent and ensures viewpoints and opinions conform to conventional thinking.

Vested financial interests are also undermining and perverting the education sectors. Just look at the garbage economic students are taught and how that mindset, in part, brought us a financial crisis.

I work in the public and private school systems daily. I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that education today is based grossly upon achievement scores as to perpetuate a raise in pay. If the children do poorly on the testing, it reflects directly on teachers pay. They teach them to take the test and not much more outside of it.

I see more dumbing down of children today as a result of it. The days of young critical thinking individuals are truly coming to a close and fast. Education used to mean a helluva lot more than it does today. I have been in the Building Automation Field a long time, and there are fewer and fewer youngsters coming into the trades nowadays than any time in the past. I know a boat load of youngsters that have more degrees than a thermometer and can't find a job anywhere and will not take one that they feel is beneath them. These people are slaves and they do not even know it.

Slavery no longer requires any type of physical restraint. The system the government has in place is creating slaves by the thousands every day. So many are now 100% dependent on the government and they will defend it to the death just to keep the assistance coming. I feel sorry for those who have been duped and do not have the snap to realize it. The only reason it does not look as bad now as in the twenties is we have food stamps and ebt cards, which are just high tech soup lines.

We will see more and more fall under government assistance (control) in the coming days. Education is a joke at best now. I know, I have paid out roughly 40k to put my daughter through college and watched her struggle like hell for a couple of years before she could do anything with her degree.

Going to get much worse before it ever begins to get better.
