Another CBD Question/Thread.

So I was reading Westword the other day and I saw that that there was a high CBD strain called R4 and the dispensary was giving away free beans and clones. What's the deal with R4? They say it has 14-20% CBD and like 1% THC. This seems rather interesting if it's on the up and up and there isn't some soap opera drama surrounding it.

Thanks and have a great day, CO RIU.

Kramer, you da man. I want some too lol. Greenwerkz is a big outfit, hard to believe that they would share their CBD genetics with the unwashed masses :-) ... most don't. I checked Leafly, the R4 shows on the menu for the Edgewater store at $204/oz.

Having said that, I went to Greenwerkz' website and indeed these wonderful folks are going to share this strain, here's the straight dope from their website, doesn't even appear you have to be a member. Boy is that going to tweek RiverRock's nose :-) hopefully they will give access to the Tsunami clones in response.

Chewberto, if you read this, they will be giving away R4 seeds at their booth at the Cup. I know you plan to attend....

Greenwerkz, a Colorado cannabis company, today announced the release of their leading CBD strain, named the R4, will be available for both patients and the medical marijuana community beginning next month, free of charge.
Their program will allow patients as well as medical marijuana centers to grow the R4 for patients under the following conditions:

  • The strain, in its natural form, is not resold as seed or clone form but may be freely given away to others
  • The end product, in bud form, is not sold for more than $15 per eighth
  • Any strains created by hybridizing the R4 would be available to Greenwerkz in clone form free of charge.
The R4 has recently been tested at over 20% assayable CBD and less than 1% THC content by weight and Greenwerkz has made concentrated forms testing over 79% CBD.
“We believe that this strain provides wonderful attributes to both patients and growers.” said Kelly Roller, Greenwerkz’ VP of Cultivation. “We have had many patients who come in just for the R4. It really does provide a lot of patients pain relief, without the cerebral/psychoactive ‘high’ typically associated with cannabis, and we wanted to share that with the community”, Roller added.
High CBD strains have been shown to treat chronic pain and conditions associated with tremors as well as provide appetite stimulation which can be critical to treatment and recovery.
Please visit Greenwerkz table at the upcoming Cannabis Cup for information packets and R4 seeds as well as the website www.greenwerkz.com for more information as the program rolls out.

Hotrod - Thank you for the link.

Bubba - Doesn't it look like a nice strain? I would love to get a couple of cuts or even more than that some seeds. I will for sure be checking that out. It would be cool if a couple of us were growing it so we could compare notes.

Yeah, I'm definitely going by the dispensary on Monday to try for some seeds. I took the clan to Estes for the weekend, so that's the earliest I can check it out.

Can you believe the place we're staying at says no mmj.... well, I wasn't planning to smoke any anyway, but I have CBD cheeba chews and mountain high suckers with me. They can kiss my ass if they thinks I'm not gonna medicate...kiss-ass

Ok picked up some R4. They said no seeds or clones until after 4/20. I'll post a smoke report later.

So what's your first impression, Bubba? How's it look and smell? Can I trouble you for a pic? I'm really curious about that strain.

Ok, I smoked some, CBD glow evident. I should have wrote down the test results, but I think the label showed 18%CBD and less than 1%THC. They're selling 1/8ths for $15 lol. It looks, smells, feels and tastes like decent bud, but doesn't get you stoned, weird man. It's too early to say how well I'll like it as I was/am already stoned (on that sweet organic Tora Bora) when I smoked the R4 tonight. I plan to give it a sober test tomorrow. I also bought some of the bho that I'll make 50mg coconut oil caps with. This should give a good side by side with RiverRock's Priva CBD caps.

Here's a pic. Looks like a little Xmas tree.

And the bud tender said that no seeds or clones would be available until after 4/20. I asked if they were going to give all the beans away at the cup, I got a rather vague answer to read the newsletter... Bud tenders lol

Well, look at that. That looks great. $15 for an 1/8th? That's just insane. I do suppose it's a specialty but still that's a great price.

Thank you very much for posting the pic and report.

Do the dispensary's out there sell Rick Simpson type oil either high THC plant material or high CBD plant material ? If so how expensive is it ?

The whole Rick Simpson Oil thing is quite a story. There are a lot of folks claiming to have had their cancers cured with this, but there doesn't seem to be a shred of evidence from the scientific community to support its effectiveness in treating disease. This strain might be a good one to use to produce the oil, but I am not the person to be figuring this out as I am just a stupid patient who really doesn't get how this purported cure works. Appreciate the info on the strain, I'll try to get a couple seeds and grow it out and give it a try. Thanks Bubba!

It's true that there is no scientific backup that RSO works or doesn't work as far as I have seen (thanks to rat bastard Feds), but neither is there evidence that CBD acts as a neuro protector, but I can tell you that it does, at least for me. My sciatic has been quiet since I started with the CBD. Sciatic back pain all starts with the nerve, if it gets inflamed, then you have muscle spasms which then hurts like the devil.

I agree that this strain might be a good candidate due to the high CBD content. I read a study by an MD in California that showed that CBD actively kills breast cancer cells, but that's the closest that I have seen to an accredited study.

NEEDMMASAP, I wish you the best with your recovery. I have not seen or heard of RSO at any of the dispensaries. There may be some Caregivers that make it, hopefully they'll speak up if so. I believe that I read that it takes pounds of weed to make it, but I could be remembering that post wrong. I thought that post was from someone on these boards, so check back and hopefully they'll see the thread and weigh in.

Good to hear the CBD helps you , Butane extracted oil would be close to RSO , how expensive is that out there ? And do I need the medical card to access the oil ?

Yes, currently you would need a med card to get access. The bho runs $40 or $50 bucks a gram for high CBD meds. This is one reason why I'm trying to grow my own... On January 1, 2014 supposedly you will be able to buy cannabis with just a government issued ID. Does anyone know if bho will be available recreationally? I tried to keep tabs on the Guvs committee, but lost track about a week before they were due to submit their findings. If recreational cannabis laws follow closely with medical cannabis, then yes you would be able to buy it, but I doubt you'll be able to buy large quantities at any one store.

My pleasure  I vaped 2 bowls of it in my NO2 stone cold sober and dug into some paperwork for a couple of hours after lunch today. It takes a good 15 to 30 minutes for the full effect. I kept thinking... am I stoned? No definitely not, but I feel great...buzzed through the pile of paper and headed home. It gets two thumbs up from me. Now I just need mass quantities to make bho to make the coco caps.

Cool report, thanks. Are you really going to make some BHO? Scares the hell out of me. Blowing the entire building up is a very real worry with the process as I have seen it done on youtube. Start the butane, gas find water heater pilot....BOOM! Not to mention to possible residual petro chems in the final product. I am more tilted towards ethanol extraction, but being a nonchemist the whole extraction thing is f'ing magic. The RSO mfg demo on youtube suggests naptha and uses about a pound of mj. I'd like to know more about it because I do hope to produce some RSO that is of high purity for personal use. Thanks for the info, rock on.:peace:
