Another noisy fan question!

I have decided to earn my keep here (finally) and start a grow. Im building a stealth dresser with a 250w hps. My concern is I hung my 265cfm hydrofarm squirrel cage fan in the dresser and its loud as heck!! I have a speed controller but even on its lowest setting it sounds like I have a drawer full of silicone toys goin off! Any advice would be greatest of you! P.S I will post pictures of my handy work later in the afternoon if you would like to see :)

You gotta figure a way to get it into the attic. Any box you build to insulate it and whatnot will help, but to get ride of the sound, you need to run bigger diameter ducting and then just run a reducer when you come in and out of the fan, and then get the fan out of the room.

I wrote that assuming you want people to be able to walk into the room and not hear your grow.

250w in a dresser? How big is the dresser? Im running 100 watt cfls in a PC case that is 26.5" tall. Using 3 PC fans to keep it cool and also bring in air. and that gets up in the 80s

Post some pics bro. I rocked a 250 for a long time so I might be able to help you more.

Just to set the record straight I am not a he, bro, or a man lol. Im a 22 year old, mother of 2 kids... who also happens to grow :) The first pic is the cab from the back with the doors open. You can see a bathroom fan I have hooked up in hopes of having a more quiet fan. Probably will work just need to rig it up a little better. Pic 2 is of my 265cfm fan. Thats the baby that even with a speed control dial still is too loud. 3rd pic is of the front of my cab minus drawer fronts. My growing space is 40"tallx30"widex20"deep. Im not expecting this to be sound proof but atleast somewhat stealth you know? Bungey cords you say huh?? Wont the fan swing around and how do I vent it without light leaks then?

As far as the fan swinging around either the ducting will keep it in place or you'll just have to find another way to stabilize the fan. There are many ways to seal light leaks. You can use caulk or another adhesive. I like to use aluminum backed tape. It seals very well and will conform to different objects. Hope this helps.

Fans are usually louder when they are working to hard. You may have to install a compairable intake fan to keep the drag down. There are other reasons why you need equal air going in as whats going out.
