SACRAMENTO (CBS13) ―Sources tell CBS13 that a state senator from Southern California was arrested for allegedly driving drunk after leaving Faces, a gay nightclub in midtown Sacramento, early Wednesday morning.

The California Highway Patrol pulled over Senator Roy Ashburn at 2:00 a.m. Wednesday after an officer noticed a black Chevy Tahoe swerving at 13th and L Streets.

The Sacramento County district attorney says Ashburn's blood-alcohol level was .14 percent when he was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving near the Capitol.

Ashburn, a father of four, is a Republican Senator representing parts of Kern, Tulare and San Bernardino Counties, with a history of opposing gay rights

When the officer stopped the state-issued vehicle, Ashburn identified himself as a senator. He was arrested without incident and charged with two misdemeanors: driving under the influence, and driving with a blood alcohol level higher than .08% or higher.

A male passenger, who was not identified as a lawmaker, was also in the car. He was not detained.

Ashburn was booked into the Sacramento County Jail and released on $1,400 bond.

Ashburn issued a statement on the arrest Wednesday afternoon:

"I am deeply sorry for my actions and offer no excuse for my poor judgment. I accept complete responsibility for my conduct and am prepared to accept the consequences for what I did. I am also truly sorry for the impact this incident will have on those who support and trust me – my family, my constituents, my friends, and my colleagues in the Senate."

Ashburn served six years as a state Assemblyman before being elected to the State Senate. According to Project Vote Smart, Ashburn's voting record shows he has voted against every gay rights measure in the State Senate since taking office including Recognizing Out-Of-State Same-Sex Marriages", Harvey Milk Day and Expanding Anti-Discrimination Laws.

Stories like these are so common today, they hardly elicit any surprise whatsoever. You would have to think that some of these politicians and preachers would have self-loathing personalities.

Here are just a few Republican politicians who are anti-gay but have had gay sex: Larry Craig, Lindsey Graham, Karl Rove, and Mark Foley.

Question: How do you fit all the gay Republicans in a closet? Answer: You can’t. There isn’t a closet that big.

Another example of the shallow thinking of the Left.

Why is it not possible for a gay person to be against proposed same sex marriage? You see, that is just another typical Progressive over simplification. They believe if a man is gay, he is automatically on their side in the debate. Why, because nuance and substance doesn't matter - dogma matters. And if a person is against same sex marriage and found to be gay, he is a hypocrite.

A hypocrite is not one who says one thing and does another. A hypocrite is one who says one thing, does another and then argues that it is different in his case.

Anyway, Elton John is a gay man who is against same sex marriage but supports civil unions, does that make him a hypocrite?

Elton John is in favor of civil unions that actually come with the same privileges in the UK that we grant solely to those who marry in the US. All those privileges which you, Rick, say would upset the delicate balance of the fabric of society if we allow it here. So don't act like you support Elton John in any way.

This closet self-hater has voted against EVERY piece of legislation that recognizes or benefits gay people. It's not just about marriage.

I would think that his voting record shows that he votes for what he thinks is right, and not in his own self interest.
He does not have to believe that homosexual couples should be afforded the same rights at heterosexual couples to be gay.

Who cares what you would think? Not I.

Does he also think it's right to be a married man hanging out in gay bars and driving while intoxicated? Would those be the same staunch principles at play in his legislative cogitations?

If you aren't going to pay attention to what people say why do you bother posting.

I have said repeatedly that I support civil unions that would give legal rights to gay couples. I am only against changing the definition of the word "marriage."

It is entirely possible that a gay person could agree that it is in the best interest of society to preserve the meaning of traditional marriage.

Beware of the zealot.

Both sides accuse the other side of doing the exact same things, and you know what, they are both right-because they are both so dead wrong.
