So i have a 3-5 day old seedling in a pot with some good soil i set outdoors in a place where i havent seen any bugs.. i put cellophane over the top to shelter from rain and nibbling critters...i went to check on it today and the soil is filled with ants and the ground all around it.

Is this bad? Do i need to get rid of them? If so, how?
please tell me everything you know on this subject

i've been an outdoor grower in Hawaii for over 35 yrs. Had my fair share of bugs too. With Ants, a ''rule of thumb'',is for me. Any Ants moving up the plant is okay for me. But once Ants move south into the soil, you got problems! You need to either flush medium, or exchange it all out for new soil.

I see them every year but they never seem to bother, or stay for that matter. I don't think they stay long after I drop 6 gallons on them.

the ants want to set up housekeeping.

Just submerge the pot in water up to the rim, and let the water come up through the drain hole to the surface.

Every ant in that pot will leave in a few minutes.

Remove the pot after a few minutes.

The ants shouldn't return.

If the ants are climbing the plant, they may be farming aphids(bad). Take a loupe and chewck it out, after the ants are gone.

I get the same thing, once in a while.

dude find there ant hole in the ground (where the colony is) and make a mixture of 1 part powdered sugar to 1 part borax, shove that stuff down their hole or leave it around there entrance into the ground. You will see a noticable difference the next day. keep feeding for a few days until they are all gone.
