Any Ebb & Gro Users?

This is my first hydro grow. I've been using this system for a week now and so far so good. 12 feminized alaskan ice plants started from seeds. Just finished week one of veg. Running 2 1000k watt MH's for now. I plan on vegging for two more weeks.

Is it bad to have any of the top of the grow cubes exposed to light? I noticed a couple exposed parts have a powdery white substance which i'm assuming is mold. The directions say to fill the buckets up with hydroton up to 3 inches from the top. My grow cubes are 4 x 4 which means that they would want a whole inch sticking out. I compromised and put the hydroton 4 inches from the top so my grow cubes are even with the top of the buckets. Then I tried to put another layer of hydroton on top to cover the grow cubes.

I'm not sure what size your pots are, but you can make a cover out of plastic, just cut a square or a circle with a slit in it, and tape it to the top of the pots to protect the top of the rockwool from light.

I'm thinking maybe not tape it too tight, you just want to block the light. I think the moisture is supposed to evaporate out of your medium between waterings.

2000 watts on only 12 plants? wow.

hmm, I just re-read your post. Put hydroton an inch on the bottom of the pot, then put your rockwool cube, and surround it with more hydroton and top it off the last inch with hydroton pebbles. All you need is just enough for hydroton to cover the top of the rockwool.

post some pictures.
