Any fix for clones that don't want to branch out?

Some strains I can take cuttings from and once they root and start vegging out the branch out nicely as well and I can top them for 4 mains.. Other strains like to just keep going strait up, stack nodes but the nodes don't want to branch out at all even after I top. Like half the clones from say strain "a" will branch out but the other half won't.. Wondering if it has to do with where the clones was cut from, or if anyone else experiences this and knows why?

are you talking about clones from the same plant behaving differently or some strains will branch out and others wont?

Some genetics just dont do well with being topped and trained a whole lot.

I guess it’s a strain dependent thing.
Some strains clone and respond well, others not. If you are cutting clones that are in zag zag mode and topping them makes the lower node become the new main?..I have seen that before.
If you are cutting clones with two nodes opposite each other and topping does not make them branch then I haven’t seen that before.

Yes I think it can have something to do with where the cuts were taken. I find that a clone from a top grows out like a top and cuts off of a branch act sorta like branches. You can top/LST train a clone more than once and allow more time to reveg in order to get them to sort of grow the way you want them to but there are limits as to what is possible. Plants grown from seed are somewhat more predictable; snip once = get 2 tops; snip again = 4 tops. FIM and you get 3-5 tips; etc etc…

I never really got into FIMing, I should check it out I guess.. I've always been a 4 tops kinda guy lol

Slows them down and is somewhat unpredictable but I try to do it for every plant from seed. FIM is not as effective on clones. Wait until there are 5 sets of nodes and then just titty-twist the very top set of leaves when they emerge sorta look like hands praying. Don’t try to cut; twist. The sloppier the FIM the better.
For clones cut straight across the tops leaving enough nodes to grow back in later. Remove the tallest tops and even out the canopy. Clone the cuts…
