Any need to try cloning if I don't have seperate rooms for vegging and flowering?

I'm on my first grow with some autos right now, and I know autos don't clone, but after this round, I am planning some regulars (meaning non-autos), so I built a cloning station in a nearby closet. Then it occurred to me...can I even clone if I only have one room to grow? My plan for my next round was to top the plants using Uncle Ben's method and then to clone the cuttings and place them right in with the topped plants, but will this work? Will the clones pick up the same schedule as the mothers, or will they be behind?

just buy some cheap cfl's Put the clones under the cfl's anywhere you want. They dont need much light at all. Once they root good put them in the flower room.

Mothers don't need much light either, I keep my cuts and host plants together, under fluoro's.

I wonder how much the lighting schedule effects clones? When you clone you don't want direct light on them. I put clones in the shadows underneath the mother plant. Clone in soil. If the clone takes it is usually around 10 to 11 days that I have roots popping out where I can see them. I use the cheap clear cups. I cloned in bubbler and it took 10 days for roots and another 10 days in soil for it to start new growth. My clones in soil I put right in the flower room at day 11.

so, Maybe just try cloning in any old room? with low light? Maybe??

I have the clone room set up already, actually a closet with 40W 6500k T8. So I can just put the rooted clones right back in with the same plants I cut them from? Will they be on the same schedule as their mothers?

My question must have been worded oddly. I have the space for rooting the clones already. I'm trying to figure out what to do AFTER the clones root. I only have one room for growing (not counting the little cloning closet). Can I just put the rooted clones right back into the same room where my other plants are in already veg? Will they catch up to be ready for 12/12 with the others?

in order for the clones to be on the same schedule, as per say, you need to get the clones to root and start growing new growth and start them flowering at the same time as the mothers. even though the clones are the same age as the mothers, they will need some time to root and grow before they will respond to the 12/12 like the mothers.

if you take the clones and start the mothers flowering before the clones have rooted and growing, then the clones will be behind.

Makes sense. My plan is to top the plants using Uncle Ben's method, so I figure I will be topping in about week 4 of veg. It's my understanding that I can clone the cuttings. Is this correct? If so, that should give them plenty of time to root and establish new growth before I have to begin flowering in the grow room, shouldn't it? Do you think this plan will work?

sounds good. i usually use the lower branches for clones. i believe they root easier than the tops, but the tops will still work. so if you get roots in 10 to 14 days, then transplant, then i would wait at least another week before flowering. they will just be alot smaller than the mothers, but then again the mothers will be vegging for 7 weeks.

That's what I was hoping you'd say. And thanks for the responses, man! +rep for you.

I figure until I'm able to remodel to establish dedicated veg/flower rooms, I can at least use the tops for a little "bonus" weed.

agreed with the bonus weed, just be carefull not to put too many plants in the room. i tried it once by filling the gaps with small clones in 1 gallon pots. but it really just got overcrowded in the end and wasnt worth it. i think its best to grow the # of plants according to the size of the room and the lights. but by all means do what you are thinking. you will learn more every grow and carry over that knowledge to the next grow.

so basically i will start seeds and veg for about 6-7 weeks. about a week before flowering them, i take a few cuttings off each plant and label them. shortly after you go to flowering, the clones are starting to root. now i will veg the clones for about 8 weeks and they go into flower as the 1st round is chopped. and round 2 is usually nice due to the long veg. time.

Cool, man. I will probably try it for the next grow just to have the experience of doing it, but I can easily see how what you say could be definitely true for my space and light. Thanks again!
