Thanks. I appreciate the support. I met someone at the expo. He was on the website. We were set to meet in the VIP area at a certain time. There was 2 accidents so I was running late. The line was long so I was running later. I couldn't find the VIP area so I gave up. About an hour later I was in line to get some medicated gelato from the Farmacy and this really nice guy in line was totally flirting it up. After a while he figured it out and asked me if my name was X and I said yes. He had been late too. It was totally random because there were so many people there.
so when is the wedding? :bigjoint:

The show was so crowded you were basically bumping into 3 people at once all the time. It was random, trust me. But it's just an introduction, by no means even really a first date or anything like that. Question is, in times like these when you can reach across the planet via the internet, do we settle for less than our ideal 10 anymore? I went to a seminar on dating and they were saying that 1st dates have increased drastically. The reason is that because of the internet, we have the possibility of meeting our perfect match so much more than 10 years ago.

There are a whole series of events planned around I believe was the seed, the Pebble Beach Concours - historic and vintage car exposition. This year is the 25th anniversary of the 1985 Ferrari 288GTO. I friggin luv that car. I'll go find a pic for ya. Then there are races a laguna Seca, and a whole bunch of insane auctions - over the most amazing vintage and historic cars. its quite a party. :bigjoint:

I've been to a classic car race at Laguna Seca. Is that where you camp out around the track?

that is certainly an option. I have not done that. lots of camping everywhere as a biologist, vacations have generally been more pampered, though not always.

Damn you are trying too hard. An increase in first dates suggests a decrease in second dates...this is not a good thing, it is promiscuity...increase in STI's, teen pregnancy, broken homes...good times. 12 years ago when I became a single parent, it was unheard of for a father to be raising a child alone. This is no longer the case as more and more mothers are "empowered" to leave their children (with grandparents or father) all because of their entitled good time.

You are jumping to a few conclusions there my friend. First of all I said first dates in general are going up. And a date doesn't necessarily include sex.

You are absolutely correct. The culture of younger singles is the hook-up. It is very rare for a couple to wait several dates anymore. And obviously you are not one of these women.

I currently live in SoCal. I have lived in the Midwest, NorCal, and Oregon.

I am sure you are just doing as I often do...exaggerate a little for dramatic prose.

1942 divorce was as rare as mixed race marriages...much less fathers raising children alone.

I have heard of lots of single fathers for years also, though they usually have "Joint custody" (in name only) and have visitation every other week end. This is very common.

During the 70's as divorce became more common, a few fathers (my own included following the death of my mother and a divorce of second mother) did raise their own kids...sort of...they had important jobs, so they remarried quickly to get the kids a stepmom to raise the kids.

It is also fairly common for the teenage kids to make the choice to live with dad after several tumultuous years resenting the guy mom sleeps with.

Dads with infants and toddlers alone is still very rare dude.

Years ago when trying to get medi-cal for my daughter, after finally understanding that the child lived with me...called it a reverse situation, pursued her for child support, license revoked for non payment, then with couny social worker got all support responsibilities removed...I have never received a cent.

Sorry Dude, except for the unruly teens who have their mothers at wits end and get sent to dad's... this is not common.

I work in a high school with ~2500 kids who fall into the teen catagory. Way less than a percent live with their father and not the mother, and MOST of those...grandma is in the house! Not so much father's raising kids alone as the grandparents, while the father still lives with his parents.

I raised my children totally by myself for 18 years. My hat is off to anyone that can hold it down and make it work out alright. My ex freaked when I asked for a divorce and went underground. There were years when we weren't sure if he was alive. There were years when we had to hide from him. We made it through together. They are amazing. We had some very tough years for sure. No need to quibble about how rare it is or not. You know you're doing a good thing and it has it's rewards. My children and I have a blast together whenever we get together. (usually a few days recovery time needed for all involved!) That's it's own reward.
