Anybody doing any Breeding this summer?

I am crossing 6 different male strains with 5 different females strains. Mostly OG crosses with some really good local genetics from an old hippie friend; however there is some XJ13 and a few TGA's Pandoras Box genes and a Cheesedog (male) I bought from Connoisseur Genetics. I also am working with some of my previous breeding results (skunk based x local genes)

Like past years, I hang the males upside down over glass (after maybe one or two flowers open) and as pollen drops on the glass I collect the pollen in vials (Method from Mel Frank's Book). Then I use a paint brush to rub pollen on selective branches on the ladies.

My understanding is that the detereriation of pollen is most due to moisture, so I am trying to pollinate during morning hours (instead of night) - my thought process being that the nightime RH spike might damage some of the pollen.

Please share your breeding techniques, genes or any other insight or questions on this thread.

I will be breeding White Russian, Kosher Kush, Grapegod, and Tora Bora with Connoisseur GrandDaddy Purple S1. Can't wait to see how the breeds turn out...

I did my/our breeding over winter and have been working with the genes since. I'm sorting thru the uglies and think its becoming more stable. My frozen mysteries (currently growing) are turning out to be amazing little gems!

growing out My Lady Cane F2s from Escobar, I took a different path than he took with the strain. I am just looking for phenos in this run that I didn't see the first time around. Currently just popped 4 colombian gold x Lambsbread, this will be my new project and add some their genetics into the lady cane strain to get a bit more sativa into it.

Nice megatron, i am growing White Russian and Grandaddy Purp right now:P Have you flowered these strains out before?

Recently i open pollinate bred New Blue Diesel Male* (sannies) with New Blue Diesel Female*, Soliliqueen Female* (dynasty seeds), and Noname Female* (lost breeder/bagseed idk, ironically has the Fatest Frostiest calyxes super exicted for this cross).

Getting way more seeds than i anticipated too :P excepting 100+ When originally with my small grow and no previous experience i hoped for 20-50.

I bred the New Blue Diesel back in 2011 but I haven't had a chance to grow out anything from them yet, hope to later this year. Question, did you have multiple phenos from her? I had 3 phenos and crossed them all with one male anxious to see what comes out of them. Another question is did you have or do have any bug problems with them? They seemed to be a bug magnet for me.

"frozen mysteries" what a great name - what did you cross to make those?

Yah def had different phonos, the male is just a male no selection really. The Blue diesel female is a decent calyx to leaf pheno with some color and decent smoke/smell. Nothing amazing and i messed up the one from over water/salt build up.

Got another BD pheno in veg that stinks already :) Not quite as much as my Choclate Rain pheno in veg or my LA Chocolat in veg. Excited for both of those to flower out.

Havent had a bug problem really except for fungus gnats when i was overwatering more. However ive tried to cut back on that as well as introducing Bti Bacteria (mosquito dunks) to my coco. Great success :P

I did some pollen chucking indoors in the past few months. I had a LA Confidential male that I crossed with a real nice cut of Girl Scout Cookies and also crossed the LA Con with Green Ribbon (Green Crack x Afgoo x Trainwreck). I harvested around 100 seeds of each variety which I'm currently curing. In a couple months I'll grow a dozen or so out and look for a winner from each gender. Then I plan to cross each back with the original female parents. I also want to do [Green Ribbon x LA Con] x Blue Dream = Blue Ribbon.

i have a chemo male outside that will pollinate a few females. i have CBD Revolution pollen in the freezer for a few females as well but my main interest right now is on a cross i made a few months ago, spacebomb x Dr.Grinspoon, the first run i did with the plant was half the flowering time of original dr.grinspoon with the same smell, taste and high.

1) Dr. Grinspoon - Bad Ass!

2) What is the longest you have frozen pollen (and it has worked after), and what is your procedure / preparation for doing so? Thanks.

Made some Rare Dankness Doc OG F2's after I read the RD is discontinuing all Face-off related strains

. Also crossed the male Docs with 2 phenos of a (Chem. Diesel f3 x (Lemonstomper x Agent Orange)) cross I've been growing for the last year.

not sure how long it will last i have used it up to 2 months after collecting it and plant to use some 4 months old pretty soon. mix 1 part pollen 4 parts corn starch and the corn starch should absorb the freezers humidity for a while.

Interesting. So when you pollenate you just rub the cornstarch-pollen mix on the stamen? I will try it, although it sounds scary. I might also try some rice grains (like the restaurants do with salt) and put it in the fridge instead of a freezer.

corn starch is common practice even if u dont freeze it, it helps stretch ur pollen so a little goes a long way.

I use rice in my pollen and it works great for me, my last breeding was with 14 month old pollen out of the fridge with great success. I just use a artist paintbrush and gently paint the buds I want to pollinate. The easiest and cleanest method I have found, but whatever works for a person is the best method.

Nice, 14 months. That is very encouraging to hear.

Not to sure the exact time but im going to say a year and half? Anyway had a trainwreck that at week 9 threw a few bananas. I picked em off and put them in a cigar box with a packet of deccasent and forgot about. Now I Have 2 rks going that I hit with some male rks pollen to get some beans and remembered those bananas in the cigar box. Hit a bud site from the other female and now have 1 bean growing. So that pollen was still good after all this time. Cant wait to grow that one. Will be my first pollen chucking ''new'' cross.
