Surgery requiring you to be put unconscious?

What happened? What was it like? Do you remember anything? Was it painful when you woke up?

Had surgery, general anesthesia. Was prepped and brought in for the anesthesia. Remember the dude smiling, telling me nighty night. And thats it. Woke in recovery. Bad scene. I was hostile, disoriented, confused, lost, real angry. Got up to leave, lots of cords, tubes, plugs attached. Alarms were beeping. Nurses asked where I was going- home damnit. I was in Detroit and live in Alaska. So I was way lost. Once I got reassured and settled I was fine. Only thing that really sucked is anesthesia "shuts" down digestion some way. Was 2 full days without a proper dump. Bloated, gassy, full, and constipated. That for me was the most uncomfortable part. Pain was ok, managable. But it did feel like something violent and harsh had happened to me. Odd ? on a grow forum. You gotta go under?

Several times here, one time it was for a burst appendix. They had me count backwards, I didn't make it very far. I apparently came to back in my room, and they were asking me questions. My then gf said I was really out of it and saying weird things. I didn't remember that, but do remember being groggy and all fucked up for a few hours. Wore off in that timeframe.

Then it was painkiller time, whee!

Maybe soon, I'm thinking of getting a couple cavities filled but I feel like that's definitely not enough of a procedure to justify the anesthesia and the dentist would probably laugh at me.. lol I just get quite a bit of anxiety anytime I have to go to the dentist.. Also, I don't want my mouth to be numb for 4 hours after, it's cool for an hour but then gets too weird..

@ obi, your appendix burst?! Dude, how did that feel? Did you know what it was right away or did you have to go see the doc to find out? Why does that happen to some people but not others, did the doctor give you any info on that? It seems to be a pretty random occurrence..

When it was just cavities, I declined the anesthesia. I prefer ten seconds of frank pain to six hours of wondering if I'm chewing my cheek. cn

I had surgery a couple of times. Once to have my appendix removed and the last time was back surgery. They have you count backwards from 10...can't remember anything after 6...You wake up and you are just so out of it from the painkillers you don't feel anything.However......for next day or so...I felt like puking from the anesthesia...they had to give me an anti-puke med in my IV. Probably gravol.

My family are prone to "Malignant Hyperthermia" which is brought on by inhaled anesthetics. For all of my surgeries I've been alert and aware. Got to watch my last knee surgery. It's pretty bad ass to see your leg peeled open and have the doc inside your leg with a big dewalt screwdriver gun. I was so alert during my first knee surgery that I remember telling the surgeon that if he cut my leg tattoo I would cut him.

Had exploratory surgery to check for blocked arteries, was out and don't remember anything after the anesthesiologist came in, had my left arm set when I broke 2 bones in it, was out and don't remember shit.
Both times, don't recall even being groggy when I woke up in my room afterwards.
When I was 3 1/2, I was put out to have 13 stitches put in my nose where I had split it open on a coffee table, and obviously don't remember about that one, except that I didn't want to go to sleep, and my mom telling me stories later throughout my childhood how I fought the drugs for 2 hours, and finally they put me out with a warm blanket.
Final bill for the anesthesiologist being in the thousands, blanket 12 bucks or something :)
this was like back in '71

Look into sedation dentistry. It's becoming pretty popular around these parts.

The only time I've actually been put under was when I had my tonsils removed when I was but a wee lad, and when I had my wisdom teeth removed when I was about 18 years old. I remember the dentist putting the mask on my face and saying, "Alright, now it's going to start to feel like you've had a few cocktails," and laughing at that was the last thing I remember. I was pretty out of it when I woke up, demanding drugs and just laughing at nothing. My mom said I was acting like an asshole, which is soooo not like me at all.

2 serguries at 8 years old. 2 shunts implanted. First failed. two months appart

Nine years later another surgery (tumor grew out off brainstem to the size of a baby lime
) tumor removed up until brainstem

Two years later came back full force

3 More brainstem surgeries that year(yes, they went IN my brain stem). Chemo, raid...

I've been under more than 20 times. Way more if you include when I was a child getting an MRI every 2 months. They put me under every time, up until I was about 4 and could stay still

Nah they're not bad at all I'm just a twitchy fuck in the dentist chair
One dentist gave me nitrous, but it was not a satisfying experience. I mean, what part of "if I can recognize, let alone follow, a command, you're not giving me enough!" is hard to understand? cn
