So me and a friend went in on a 600watt digital greenhouse getup and all went well for a little under a week untill I got a phone call from my friend today saying the ballast took a dump. he brought the getup down to a local hydro store and they hooked up the reflector/light to a floor model 6oo watt ballast and it lit up.
Then for haha's they hooked the digital shithouse ballast to the floor model reflector/light...... surprise, surprise a whole lot of NOTHING... then to top it all off the hydro store employee remarks...did you get the pos on ebay or some magazine:wall: I have seen MANY post on multiple forums of bulb faliures "growbright"
Anyone else ever have a problem with stuff from htg? how long did it take from start of problem to the time you got a replacement? or refund?
time is something we really don't have, as for now a 250watt mh is running the show and is not going to suffice for long. I sent a email to htg, today is a holiday and nobody picked up the phone on there end today. I just don't want to see alot of money spent go to waste waiting a while to send a ballast and then wait for a new one:fire::wall:

This a really good topic..considering I want to buy a normal HTG brand 400 HPS.....the only thing I like is the warranty..ots for like 2-3 years I think...Ive heard good things about the NORMAL 400 W HPS..but Ive heard their digital ballasts are pretty cheap...IMHO digital ballasts break alot faster than normal ones...considering all their "insides"are wires....

I just got done doing a search on there ballast and came back with alot of post on forums about the digital shithouse ballast and growbrightbulbs as well and a few threads were from this forum. I figured go with diff bulbs and be good as at the time heard nothing about the ballast just the growbright bulbs being a problem. I will not take another digital in return only a mag ballast for me! in 7 years I have never had a ballast go out go figure!
every thread I found though all seemed pretty happy with there service in replacing things though so that good to see..

HTG will take care of you and make it right, so don't worry about it.

If you are like me and want to plug it in and use it without having to worry about it go to HIDHUT, I've had no problems with their stuff and it has years of use on it.

To me TIME is more important than "They'll make it right"

Yep that's what I'm talking about, they sell other brands also.

www.hidhut.com

Since I brag about them, their website is down, go figure.

I use their digital ballasts and have never had a problem, when I bring it up it is usually followed by 10 HTG is better and cheaper posts, $20 cheaper for a digital ballast over a magnetic, oh well. Then I mention it in a "my stuff don't work thread" and usually get drowned out by the HTG will make it right don't worry posts. I've read many problems with the HTG stuff. HIDHUT stuff I just plug it all together and never had a problem and it is in a Salt Water environment, it don't get much harsher than that.

Try their link later and see if it works.

I just fired up my 600 W digital ballast with the MH conversion bulb in it for the first time - works fine. That is the brightest damn bulb I have ever been close to.

Hey Guudbud, did the fan go out on the Digital Greenhouse ballast? I only ask because I've seen several indoor horticulture sites specifically mention the fan as a vulnerability.

However, I am prone to believe that the vulnerability is exagerated by sites selling the far more expensive lumatek and galaxy electronic ballasts. It would seem that the fan is the only obvious difference between the Digital Greenhouse ballast and the more expensive brands.

Consider also that HTG is , apparently, the big dog on the block and to some degree this makes their stuff a target for criticism by other grow stores. So, what I'm saying is do we really know which ballasts have the best track records for reliability? With the modern era of international economics the old adage of "you get what you pay for" will only consistently result in spending more than may be necessary and it's entirely possible that a cheaper product might actually be more reliable.

the fan actually still worked.. I have never had a problem untill I went the cheap route so I'd say you get what you pay for!!

HTG will make it right. I had a growbright bulb die in a week and had a replacement on my doorstep in 3 days. The bulb may have died due to a fly landing on it, or me being dumb and watering near the bulb...which I don;t do anymore...can't say if it was due to bulb quality. The new bulb works great...and SUPER BRIGHT. My digital ballast works fine, and they have a decent warranty so no worries. HTG has great customer service, good prices, and good products.

I guess it's just coincidence I ran into this thread, but yeah, I am having a problem with my supposed to be "100% brand new" digital greenhouse ballast. It's a 600 watter and trips every GFI circuit in my house, which from my research means current is leaking from the ballast. Not Good, and has me pretty upset. Unfortunately I need it in use right now for my peppers so it's plugged into a normal 15 amp circuit without a GFCI on it. I will be contacting them first thing tomorrow. The price does seem too good to be true. Hope everything works out.

Oh yeah, those light hangers that came with my setup are complete garbage. If you'd like to sleep at night, get something solid. I bought white chain and a couple removable links from my local improvement store for cheap.

Edit:
To follow up on my post, I finally got a hold of HTGS. Once you get through the customer service is excellent. They'll be sending me a replacement ballast tomorrow with a return label for the defective one. Quality service. The man I spoke with also assured me everything they sell is "100% brand new" So take what you want from that. I'm just happy to get my replacement so quickly and easily and will likely do business with them again :)

I struggled with the adjustable light hangers at first, but then realized that they function like a window shade, that "catches". Takes a little fiddling but works fine once you get the hang of them. One of the locking wingnuts doesn;t work however, but its on the lighter end of the bulb/reflector, the side without the light socket, so its fine. Not the best quality adjustable hangers, yeah I would agree with that.
