the ballast are digital and magnetic (they are all electronic, =)). digital ballasts are pretty much the new standard, they are slightly more expensive but are interchangeable with HPS and MH bulbs, and typically have "dimming" capabilities to let you run lights at lower power lvls if you desire. digital ballasts are also silent (except for the small fan noise) unlike the magnetic one which hum. magnetic are somewhat cheaper but you need different ones for HPS and MH typically unless you want to buy high priced bulbs to run in the opposing one.

I run the Ebb & Grow system. It comes with 12 pots, 55 gallon res, control bucket, hose, and it came with a box of nutes. I am a new grower on my first grow so I dont know a whole lot but I like the ebb & grow system because it was sooooo easy. I have pics of my setup in my grow journal.

Anytime =), ... but there is one great thing about soil over most hydro, that i learned the hard way. In soil you can grab that plant and take it out and manicure it and stick it back in and get the next one. In hydro you plants are pretty much stuck where they are in relation to the others making LST and trimming a lot harder...at least for me but this is my first time LSTing with hydro. - happy growing

yea all i can tell you is soil is always more forgiving but i never done hydro and cfls in veg are great the higher the wats/ lumen the better. yea and i done research on why they have the dimming on those ballest and it comes down to mimicing the the sun when clouds or a shaded day am still looking into it but when i was reading high times back in the days they had this one grow that would give one section of the grow room light with the other section was off produced huge buds.
