lots of people do it they also sprout faster at higher temperatures like 85-90 which lights can help you achieve.

I like giving my plants night cycles for energy efficiency and for optimal root growth. Strong roots make a strong plant. However I dont change my lighting off of 24/0 until after all my seeds sprout.

You can do this for a few days to assist in the quick sprouting of your seeds but.... Plants need rest. Durring the day your plants need that light for photosynthisis and durring the night your plants use that energy it stored to work on its roots and also some growing. You will notice as your plants get bigger they will have growth spurts in the night. Your plants need rest brother. Give them a 6 hour nap every night. They will apreciate it. Switch to 18/6.

Here is how i sprout my babies, after I germinate in baggies, some may disagree but I get great results with this method.

Get a 25 gallon cooler
small potters 2" to 4"
two small cfls a fixture with two sockets
put your containers in the cooler
fill with soil and place seed in soil
turn on your light
adjust light height by closing the lid on the cord

I leave the light on for 24hrs. The temp inside my cooler is around 90 degrees The plants stay in the cooler untill the first set of leaves ar developed then they get transplanted and moved to 4 ,4 foot tubes and 6 cfls for 3 weeks then I flower then at around 8" to 1'

There are many ways to achieve the same results but I realy like using a cooler. The higher temps during the seedling stage seems to make them sprout out of the soil much fast than putting them in a bigger room with lights on. The important thing here is that I want to point out is that I do not leave them in the cooler for very long just untill they are ready to enter the veg state. Around 2 weeks to 4 weeks depends on what strain I am growing as well but, that is about how long they are in the cooler for..

i tend to germinate by placing 5/6 in a soaked towel, placed in a warm dark place, checked on daily. after a cm or so sprouting, plant in 5" pots half an inch down. leave in dark for a few days and then stick under 18/6 lights with my other boys, even if they havent broken the surface. seems to work okay

I've never seen any proof to support this, but, it will raise your electric bill, that I am sure of. If your trying to grow pot inside, I woud "want" to try to mimick mother nature, as she knows her shit!
Peace

A previous study says that using the 16/8 hours will help with root growth the best. You should really let your plants rest for at least 4 hours. The plants will love you back as well as your electric bill!!

well they do more photosynthesis but they don't use this then as well to grow as far as i knew. so i stick to a 18/6 cycle for germing as for veg. maybe conservative but i'm that way sometime:-|
