I was browsing Youtube and came across http://www.youtube.com/user/silverarm32 channel. He says he is able to get the plants to flower without additional nutrients. I personally believe this was possible due to the combination of adding of red wigglers, the addition of brim shrimp, and the overall age of the system for a more balanced P K ratio. Check out his videos.

Lights used:

1x 400 watt High pressure sodium
1x 400 watt Metal Allied

Grow medium:

Clay pellets
Lava Rocks

Tank:
2x 50 gallons

Fish and vermi:

Gold Fish
Koi
Plecostomus
Craw fish
Shiners

Red Wigglers

I can't take credit for this. This success story is due in part to the owner of that Youtube channel. But thank you on his behalf I guess.

awesome to see more AP grows on RIU! what strain(s) are you going with? the problem i had with red worms was them not composting fast enough, so start PK rich foods early. they survive in really wet conditions, but i wouldn't say that they thrive. they did reproduce, though. i also got a lot of springtails, too, as rotting organic matter built up. don't kill those!

an alternative to worms is anaerobic digestion. i'm planning to add an anaerobic digester (biogas) and then dump the effluent into a slow sand filter for further digestion. after thoroughly aerating the digested and filtered organic slurry, i'll dump that back into my system. at that point, it should be pure, organically derived ionic nutrients in solution with very few solids. going with general organics with maybe some worm castings, guano, and bananas.

looking forward to seeing your grow!
