are air pumps necessary in res?

Quick question for the hydro people.
I recently set up a new system and was having problems with res temps. The ambient room temp stays in the 70 to 75 degree range, but yet my res temps were staying high. I insulated my res(60gal tote) thinking that would do the trick. Next time I checked temps they were back up again.
I usually would add a frozen gal jug once a day and my temps were fine( 55 to 60) but it's not working now. After some checking, i noticed that the airlines from pump were warm, so i turned them off and now my temps are back to the 55 to 60 range.
Are air pumps a must have for the res? Or can I just add h202 each day to add a lil oxygen to the nutrient solution?
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.
My bad folks, forgot to mention that it's a flood-n-drain system.

That's kind of what I was thinking, just hoping other wise.
Any suggestions on how to cool the air from the pumps? It's literally a 10 degree diff with them on and off.

clean them, they can get clogged sucking in air and have to work harder, or if they were cheap ones to begin with replace them.

I'll be damn, never crossed my mind to check intake filters. Good idea, the pumps aren't the cheap ones. The big pump comes with a 6 outlet manifold, 35 watt
Thanx for the tip.
