Are carbon filters really effective?

Hi, starting first closet grow soon. One plant in a GL40 tent, pretty small time. Im going to run a S&P 100x fan pukking air out of the tent and pushing it through a 4x12 phresh filter. I will put the large particle filter on the inside since ill be pushing through it. Will i be stink free with this set up if i grow female seeds c99? I might invest in ONA just to be safe. Would anyone go so far to say that i should add an additional filter in the closet as a scrubber too? or even an ozone gen on a time? I just really want to be stink free im sure you can all understand. Thanks

Yeah I hav a grow tent and when its closed with the carbon filter running you cant smell anything at all but when I turn the filter off you can smell it from outside the house. Its a very strong, thick smell. You know the filter is working when the tent is closed and all the walls of the tent suck in. That means no air is escaping the tent without first going through the filter. And no, you wont need any additional carbon filters or ozone gen, one carbon filter is more than enough for your grow. Heres the one i use (works extremely well and its cheap with great reviews):

I love my Phresh carbon filter. it mops up all the odors from even stinky strains. I do also have an ozone generator, and it is a great thing to have for terpenaceous escapees ... and for when i pull the plants out for maintenance.

The ozonizer is also outstanding for forgiving my digestive system's peculiarities. No shit. cn

I just tried the Ona gel for the first time...meh. I doesn't really neutralize odors but rather masks them, so it's now being used in the car as a very expensive air freshener.

And I love Cindy, she's a potent and quick finisher.

In that case I'll recommend an ozonizer. i have a Crystal Air unit. (Canadians make great stuff imo.) It's expensive but useful and versatile. cn

Wow just looked up crystal air. The outputs on their units is pretty intense. I was thinking if i ever got an ozone generator it'd be the OZN-01 just because its inexpensive, UV based (don't like corona discharge), has an easily replaceable bulb, and still puts out 1000mg/hr of ozone which is more than ill ever need for my small grows. Thanks for the good suggestion though they seem like a great company!

You will also notice, since I just finished female seeds C'99, the Cindy is not that smelly during flowering. Now a strain like g-13 labs blueberry gum.. wow that is some smelly stuff that my phresh filter is doing a fantastic job of eliminating the odors. Yes, a filter is a definite must so you can keep what is yours private!!!!

Take it from someone who dicked around with lots of options for odor, both DIY and store bought.....Should have got a quality fan and filter right off the bat.Amazing

ONA inside the filter? Wouldn't that kill the filter prematurely since more smelly stuff (the ONA) is getting caught in the filter?

LOL i was looking at that for a 1st time grow.It had my lips wet just thinking about it.I had no idea it would be as stinky as you said. And i was debating of even using a carbon filter for some of the blueberry/bubblegum/gum strains.

It is really that good then? Ive looked at carbon filters, vapourtek 4000 and portable ozones and have yet to decide as to vapurtek and ozone or just carbon and ozone.I dont want any carbon dust over anything which is the big problem.Carbon filters are dirty shizzle...

And :-P to the person who has ona inside the carbon filter rofl....why scrub ona when its meant to be masking whatever leaves the filter? Carbon filter negative pressure sealed tent>secondary DIY tent/wardrobe with aie holes and ona block inside this area would be the most efficent. You outtake cleaned air from the carbon and then scent that air with ona which gets pushed out via the holes around the room etc.

If hes pulling air thru the filter, that filtered air hits the ona before being exhausted.....I get what ur saying buddy, actually pretty clever as I was just going to put my ona at the end of the exhaust but i was thinking about putting it about a foot into the end of it. Props on your thinking pattern!

BTW hes not scrubbing ona if hes exhausting, he is masking whatever got past the filter....just at the beginning, not at the end..
