Good question... I have an agro max 400w mh and a hortilux 400 bulb. I got the hortilux from a friend who quit growing and im not sure which specific one it is, but it has the fat part of an MH bulb and a very small long and skinny part of a hps- so i dont know =/. I use the hortilux - it seems brighter to the naked eye but who am i kidding - i cant tell. I'm guessing.

So i have no answer for you and waiting to see if anything else comes up.

That reply left more confusion LOL.

Hortilux bulbs are made by a company well respected for their research and development. These aren't bulbs tossed together from parts nor are they rebranded street lamps. They are expensive for several reasons. R&D, European made, advertising, quality parts, quality end result. I have used their bulbs as well as others. I find through personal experience they make bulbs that perform as promised. Cheaper, Chinese bulbs are flooding the market. They will grow a respectable crop. The difference in cost is equal to about 1/8-1/4 of highgrade per bulb. I really couldn't tell you if the yield using Hortilux vs Plantmax will offer this trade off. I do know the Hortilux bulbs are made using less waste, less dangerous elements, and to a better standard. I also know the company has an impeccable reputaion amongst aquarium hobbyists for consistent color temps. The same can not be said of ANY Chinese bulbs available as of 1 year ago. Their Blue model MH is hands down the bee's knees at vegging indoors. The lush, squat, vigorous growth must be seen to be believed. Since I use 600 w hps on electronic ballasts, Hortilux no longer fits my needs. I still chose to go with a top name euro brand which is specced for high frequency operation. LD

The hortilux bulb you have should have markings on it either printed on the bulb or on the ceramic ring at the base. If it indeed had two arc tubes, it is not a 400w bulb and I would not recommend using it until confirming it's stated wattage. LD

I've had two Hortiluxes fail after about 800 hours in absolutely perfect conditions. One day I open the room up and the bulb is 1/2 as bright as the day before. No more for me.

There is a big difference between hps bulbs.Look for the CRI number.Cheap hps bulbs have a low number,i have seen as low as 17.The higher the CRI number, the better the light spectrum that light has. Hps bulbs that cost $30.00 or more have a high CRI,80-90.These bulbs produce a better light spectrum that the plants will use.You can see the difference between the two bulbs,a big difference.OPH

Here is my bulb... maybe someone can tell me what the hell it is... i've googled it a few times with no luck on getting a good description... Is it just a decent Mh bulb?
EYE Hortilux ACE conversion. 6500k daylight.

MT means metal halide tubular, wattage, D is daylight, L seems closest to LU, HPS conversion/retrofit, which is what ACE bulbs are. BH... base horizontal?

That's my best guess.

I know that E39 describes the base - The E stands for Edison screw in type - and 39 means it is 39 mm across. I have no idea what BH actually means though Base....something? I'll look around.

Yea, that bulb is discontinued. And EYE changed their labeling system. Leaves a few questions, for sure. I'm just applying my common sense. ;)
