Are they ready yet?

Hi, folks. I'm growing Northern Lights by Nirvana Seeds and I was just wondering if these girls are close enough to harvest. I'm going for max potency so I believe I need to harvest when about 40% of the pistils have turned red. How close does this look to 40%? PS: I do have a jewelers loupe and I also have a pocket microscope. My hands aren't steady enough for the microscope and the jewelers loupe doesn't give me enough magnification. Thanks in advance for any help from20160613_002240.jpg 20160613_002304.jpg 20160613_002319.jpg 20160613_002326.jpg 20160611_234249.jpg 20160611_234242.jpg 20160613_002331.jpg you more experienced growers and I also apologize for any lack of quality in the pics.

You've still got a lot of white hairs, so the buds are still bulking up. More like 10 days - 2 weeks. If you're getting anxious, just cut off a few branches soon and dry. That way you get what you want all around

Thanks, abe. Yeah I've already got a Wonder Woman drying. She finished really fast with lots of red hairs. Yeah I'll keep the last three around for another ten days, see if those colas swell even more :leaf:

Best way to really make the call is to use a magnifier and determine if the resin heads are round and swollen, if they are clear, cloudy or amber and at what percentage.

I can't hold the pocket microscope steady enough and the jewelers loupe makes me squint awfully hard. I'll try using the jewelers loupe again.

Have you ever harvested for max potency before? Its a bit misleading imo, i mean if you like the jittery stoned then go for it but you'll need a loupe

Nice plant btw, take that sucker 3-4 more weeks and the high would wrap your ass in a blanket and make you stare into space lmao

Thanks, SPLFreak. Those pics represent 3 different Northern Lights plants. I've actually never harvested before this grow so no I've never actually harvested for max potency. I've harvested one plant that is drying right now but that sucker had red hairs all over it. I'm not gonna lie though... I do kind of like the trippy high. I also like the couchlock buzzes. But yeah, it's my first grow so I'm just trying to make sure I get everything right.

Funny how everybody posts the same pics of buds covered in long straight white hairs and wants to know if it's ready.

4 more weeks, you're not even close. If you doubt that advice, look at any of the other 1000+ threads posting the same pics with the same long white hairs and see what advice was given for them also.

Wow. Thanks for that, man. Guess I just wanted to see how my own particular plants looked. There's plenty of threads here that have the same context as the next thread. Probably isn't gong to kill anyone to look at my own personal situation though. Obviously I wanted an opinion that was based on MY situation, not somebody else's. In the description I plainly stated that I was aiming for about 40% red pistils. My question was if anyone thought that that looked like 40% yet. And yes, I understand how to navigate around on this website to find the thousands plus other threads with people who have pictures of plants that aren't my genetics. Sorry to have raised your ire. It must really have bummed you out that I created a thread that is dedicated to my own personal situation. I'll try to think more clearly next time. :peace:

You should've took the time to read the stickied threads @ the top of the page...

The very first posts would've shown you're nowhere near done.
You shouldn't have ANY white hairs by harvest, and most orange hairs should turn dark red + recede into the bud.

Another month or more depending on how the buds mature.

When those white pistils show it is a good sign, things are coming along good, but those pistils will recede into the buds and they will turn to an amberish colour. When you want to check your plant with microscope, first pull off a small leaf from within the bud area , then you will have a better look.
Harvesting now will ruin everything, be patient, it won't be long.

Your looking for 40% red pistils ?, you should be looking for that in the triches.

Thanks, Tazz. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to pull off a leaf or not. I'll try that, that way I can get it steady under the microscope.

Believe it or not, I'm not bummed, nor is my ire raised one tiny iota. I'm just curious why some people tend to say "Hey look at me (or mine)" rather than spend a few minutes to review other peoples' posts of the exact same thing. If you had seen any of the 4 or 5 other posts posted the same day, you could have answered your basic question "I was just wondering if these girls are close enough to harvest".

So now you know... it's not a case of genetics, long straight white hairs are common in ALL immature pot plants. It means they need to grow and mature more. Your plants look very nice, and have lots of white hairs which should all mature to typically brown or red or orange as they approach maturity (not 40% red as you mentioned).

I hope you don't misunderstand why I'm recommending to you to read more. Your assumptions that 40% red hairs and loads of straight white hairs means you think they're about ready to harvest - I'm just concerned that you have a lot to learn and I'm trying to help point you in the right direction. Just telling you 2 weeks, or 3 or 4, doesn't do you any good if you still believe the misinformation your clinging to.

So peace to you too and happy growing.
