Are you using a 550 V2 R Spec?

do I need supplemental lighting for the vegetive state? I saw the B spec light but holy fuck it’s another 850$.

I prefer the warranty and origin of the hlg brand which is why I steer away from spider farmer and others, BUT I know nothing...

Lol. You can veg with the R Spec bruh. It's gonna need to be dimmed. Or just buy a 1 or 2 board kit from HLG for $120-$220 in 5000K color if you want a true dedicated veg light. But I'm really not a fan of straight 5000K. I think 4000K is the absolute best veg spectrum.

I find vegg with low light intensity one of the harder things to do with led, especially if you have a static spectrum. One thing you could do is simply buy some qb11 strips with some extra blue and put it on a separate driver.
Raising temps and adding blue can help with vegg plants that just wont transpire/take decent light intensity/getting bleachy maggy deficiencies.

thanks man, im not sure what you mean by a separate driver. I see the qb11 for blue. I want to do a hlg 300 l r-spec for a 2x2, how would I include qb11s in the blue spec, is put them in with the 300 l?

Dont know about where to put a qb11 on a hlg300 but on a 550 im pretty sure theres space in between boards. Separate driver: separate power supply so you turn it on off annd dim separately.

how many qb11s do you think I’d need? Would I be better off just using a MH for veg and the hlg RSpec for flower?

Id look out for poor plant stance: plants not praying and drinking slowly, especially at low light intensity. Use higher temps than hid to get them.drinking. alternatively use some more boue light. If plants arent drinking properly you can deficiencies, especially mag and Ca.

Theres some info if you look into what makes a plant open their stomata.
