And yes would be considered as self-defense in the knee...you must know the definition of permitted deadly force...but i still don't know why he didn't pull his gun when the other guy did

I wonder what would happen to the "air soft shooter" if he had shot a cop with those pellets?
Assuming I am correct in my belief that the cop would have shot him dead on the spot, I wonder what would happen to the cop who used lethal force against the "air soft shooter"?
Shooting at somebody with what looks like a gun can get you killed. The cops in New York shot Amadou Diallo about 20 times for brandishing his wallet.

I remember that. Wasn't it like 3 or 4 cops completely unloaded on him. Shot him in the vestibule of his building.

Yep. The cops said he matched the description of some sort of felon they were looking for. He was in a darkened doorway of a building. It was night time. The cops shouted for him to freeze or some such command and he pulled out his wallet. Some think he was producing his ID, which seems reasonable. A whole gaggle of cops fired their glock semi-automatic pistols (assault weapon, really) till the slides locked back. Mr. Diallo was perforated dozens of times. There was a large public outcry. I don't know what, if anything, happened to the cops.
I have taught my kids to be very careful around cops: "if you get pulled over, make sure both of your hands are on the steering wheel in plain sight... make sure all your passengers' hands are in plain sight. turn on the dome light so the cop can see inside the car. don't make any sudden movements to retrieve anything. let the cop know that you are opening the glove box to get the registration papers, etc." I follow the same rules. If anybody is going to kill you and suffer no consequences it will be a cop.

Where did you hear this little bit of trivia? I am guessing Dave Chappele's old television show. Shooting at someone with a firearm is an attempt at murder.
