How hot is too hot?I've melted a few cxb3070's
What i am basically asking, what is the maximum threshold you should never reach type of thing. Your reply is based on case temps provided there is adequate cooling involved. Reason i ask is that i would like to perform some experiments on some cobs. I have a laser temp gauge reader just in case i reach those temps whatever they may be.at the typical currents we use its pretty hard to overheat them. to answer your question, optimum temperature is as cool as possible, but its because it makes them brighter, not because it makes them last longer

That chart tells you more than i could type in 1000 words. there is really no reason to run cobs hotter than you canWhat i am basically asking, what is the maximum threshold you should never reach type of thing. Sounds like a plan, fixing to fire it up.That chart tells you more than i could type in 1000 words. there is really no reason to run cobs hotter than you can
i have run some citizen chips up over 420W each and they are barely bigger than a CXB. you really have to beat teh hell out of one of these to melt them. like greatly undersized heatsink+high currents
if you wanna blow up chips i recommend blowing up ones that arent so expensive
