i cant say if it dries them out but lots of bugs fuckin hate walking around in fine powders. They cant move properly and it sticks to all the little hairs and shit - probably fucks their senses up a bit. I use rock dust all the time in soil and still get bugs so I dunno if it dries them out

Think he means DT or diatomaceous earth it has tiny sharp edges and cuts the bugs up
