5 gallons is a bit big for autos....I use 1 gallon pots with no problem and most I know that grow autos use anywhere from 1-3 gal pots...just my 2 cents....
Yes! The bigger the pot the bigger the yield. 5 gallon pots would be perfect since your using a 1k light

This may be true for photo period but since autos flower by age and not by light cycle and most true autos are done 60 days from seeds they do not have the time to get big enough to merit a 5 gallon pot...waste of soil, water and nutes imo....

This is one of the most common mistakes made by AF growers. They assume that all AF strains are dwarfs. My onyx will reach 4 feet in height. My auto AK, MI5 and Super Cali Haze all reached almost 5 feet and put off 3 ounces each. If they had been in 1 gallon pots they would have pot bound and put out half that. You need to base your pot size on the strain and light source your growing or you'll be sadly disappointed in the end. Thanks for the input though, do give bigger pots a try if you ever step up to the bigger plants, you'll be glad you did. Any thoughts on transplant time?

Maybe the problem with autos is most of the time noobs use them, don't get the results they are looking for, and instantly write them off. I've seen plenty of seasoned growers get anywhere from 1-3 zips every time they grow them.

I got almost 2 ozs off of a Joint Dr. Easyrider in a 1.5 gallon pot. I don't think the yield would've improved much with more dirt, more light maybe but not more dirt, maybe I would have to feed it less often.

And if worried about rootbound then let me see if I can find some pics of fdd2blacks plants that are like 6 feet tall in tiny ass pots. lol He had to use spikes to nail em down so the wind wouldn't blow them over.

Killer thread people, just read the first 50 pages or so. But I had a queastion that may have been answered already in these 580 pages.
I am planning on starting a small Legal Medical closet garden.
My Specs. and my plan first.
I want to use (24) 1 gallon pots. in a 2' x 4' x 5'tall closet starting 6 new plants every 2 weeks and try to keep a continuous cycle. I can have only 6 over 12" and 18 under 12" at one time or 24 under 12" at one time to stay legal. and that what I want to do. No jail please.

Question 1. Am I better off with a t5 4' 6 lamp light (324watts), or a 250 mh/hps setup with a econowing reflector and a few supplemental cfl's to bring the total watts to 350-400max.

Question 2. I plan on using a 4" inline w/carbon filter and a few clip fans inside the small enclosed area, the intake is passive near the bottom, and the fan exhaust above of course, circlulating within a 10 x 10 room normaly kept at 70 degrees. Will this keep the temps at bay for either light set-up within the chamber. And will this prevent the odor from leaking into the 10x10 room if I have the closet airtight only with the passive and exhaust descirbed above with the carbon filter and fan running 24/7.

Question 3. Can I easily expect a 1/2 O. DRY per plant in this small rotating chamber given the 2 different lighting options, 324w t5's vs. 250 mh/hps. And let's assume that ever environmental conditon is perfect, water and feed properly using a short autoflower. From Jiffy cube straight to 1 gallon no transplant.

Question 4. Strain suggestions for this short plan, lol. I want to try to keep the babies between 12"-18" max.

This sounds like it is going to be fun, growing the midgets.

Would love for some expert opinions for lighting options before I make a purchase. And to know what to expect for heat issues with either light. I've only used the sun in the past, this is why I ask.
I will definately keep reading this thread for all the great tips and advice. +Reps always peeps

Joint Doctor Easyrider was really good and yields nice.
Agreed, and it has serious bag appeal...major SOARING high off it too, and I get like 35g's average (that was with small pots too, wish Id used 1 gal+)with a 400w HPS and Biobizz nutes.

EDIT: Think I replied to an ancient post there...sorry!

I'm growing afghan kush ryder for the first time. 2 afghan kush ryder and 1 afghan kush special. The Afghan Kush ryder started flowering right at 3 weeks..well one of them. The other got made when I transplanted her..so shes lagging behind and is branching wierd. On the one that is flowering only 3 nods that I see have pistils! Does this means Ill get a low yield? How much longer are these set to finish once they start flowering?

((For acting purposes only))

65 to 72 days harvest from seed on those afghan kush ryders. I am growing 7 of them my self. And have grown them in the past, the one branching out should fill in nicely.

I really enjoyed my easy ryder. Especially the "tall" pheno. Very potent and had a nice fruity aroma and taste.
