with the development of LED in the last few years, I was wondering if anybody ever tried using automotive bulbs. They're available anywhere, got decent watt/$ ratio and fixtures are at every wrecking yard/autoparts place.

Hope it works for you... Sounds like a good idea for people watching their money like I used to when I tried a grow at 21 years of age...
I only had money for plastic sockets and flood lights... What a waste of time and money...

I'm not doing it. Was only wondering if anybody had tried. Cos frankly, diy cobs are not much different.

Fair enough and good point. I just always thought par was what mattered, not lumen so much
It does, but at the same time, LPW can give you a quick idea. That low of LPW there is no way it will provide enough PAR/W let alone a proper beam for growing.

great to think out of the box but the reality is cob chips are literally absurdly cheap for what they do
