Avoiding clay in native soil

Whats up Rollitup
Im doing an outdoor grow right now and Ive decided to take a different approach to my final holes. We dug some too close and too manage with what room we have theres no choice but to dig the entire spot up. After about 15-20 in. in the ground Im hitting some pretty thick, crappy clay that Id like to avoid at all costs. Instead of diggig some holes 2x2x2 or so Ive decided to just dig a large ditch about 3 feet deep
Now my question is, is there anything I could mix in the native soil or use instead of the native soil short of making the whole thing a soil mix because thats too expensive. Ive heard of digging deep and filling the bottom foot with some peat moss and then soil or something along those lines, but Im not sure. This is where we are at

We threw a layer of worm castings just to get some nutes in that lower soil for the hell of it. Really still iffy about how we should do this so any ideas would help.
