Bagseed: My Organic Soil/CFL Grow

To catch everyone up to date, On July 9th I planted (6) bagseed in (6) seperate red solo cups. The original product from which the seeds were harvested from was a pretty tightly compacted bud with orange hairs aplenty :D. In my moderate smoking expirience I would say it was an indica dominate hybrid. I germanated 10 seeds by sticking them in a half empty bottle of disani water, placing the bottle in a black sock, and placing the bottle under my sink (warm/dark.). Never messed with papertowels or anything and have always had no worse than 85-90% germ rates. Just always make sure to pick the big brown seeds with those tiger stripes! Anyway, within 4-5 days i had six seeds with at least a 1/4 inch tap root in the bottle. July 9th the seeds were planted into the solo cups, which were filled with a 1/4 perlite - 1/4 vermiculite - 1/2 generic potting soil. Its a real light fluffy mix, easy for roots to get established in. In hindsight, the generic topsoil was alittle mulchy, or woody. :???: Lesser topsoil uses wood ships to "cut" the soil making it cheaper. Go ahead and spend the extra $5 dollars for better soil-your seedlings will thank you! I placed all 6 cups under (4) TCP SpringLight 23w=100w, cool white, 1500 lumen(each) CFL bulbs. From what I understand, the cool white is more in the light spectrum seedings and veg. plants like. I placed them on a 20hr on and 4hr off aday light schedule. Just about a tablespoon of water in each cup every other day. July 15, all six plants had sprouted. Same water schedule until transplant on July 30th. All water used for now is standard 7.0ph tapwater that I let sit for 2 days to de-chlorinate. My next Post will include updates and pics! :hump:Enjoy!

For those of you that made it through my lengthy intro...Things are getting good! On July 29, I made my first trip to the local hydro shop. They had a fair selection and decent prices. I knew I wanted to go organic, so I made do with wha they had. Sorry about the poor picture quality...I didnt worry about grabbing my digital camera for these first set of pictures...just to give you an idea of what im working with.
JULY 29 PRODUCTS.jpg

July 29 Soils.jpg
Hydro Shop Loot:

2 bags of Fox Farm Ocean Forest - (Nothing but good reviews, Some of the best soil you can buy. Fish, Shrimp, Crab meals, and earthworm castings. They dont provide an NPK ratio for this tho . Should be enough nutes to get me through at least a few weeks of veg.) - $19 dollars a bag

Fox Farm Marine Cuisine (10-7-7) - (Now maybe I havent done my research but does anyone else notice that the FF MC is the exact same ingredients thats mixed into there Ocean Forest soil??! So if my plants use up the nutes in the soil during late veg, Ill have a nice organic additive to suplement.) $12

Indonesian Bat guano (.5-12-.5) - (This will be my main flower nute. I believe i will be using a tea mix to feed during flowering. Be careul while buying batpoo tho! There is Mexican, Indonesian, And Jamicain bat guano. All much different npk ratios depending on their inscet or fruit diets. $8

Perlite & Vermiculite - (TECHNICALLY, I bought these before. Fox farm soil can come a little heavy, so I mixed in these two to help with drainage and keep the soil from becoming compacted.) $5 dollars a bag

Hygrozyme (0-0-0) - (Not a fertalizer, but from what I understand it is an enzamatic mixture that helps maintian a good, clean, beneficial bacteria base in the soil medium. It also aids the plant in uptake, root decay management, and much more...benefits are endless i guess?!) $32

Superthrive (0-0-0) - (Honestly this looks like the most gimmicky looking product ever! But a B vitamin supplement, ive read that it does wondering for kick starting transplanted plans and helps revive hurting plants. for 10 bucks...and at 1 drop per gallon application..ill try it!) $10

CalMag Plus (2-0-0) - (Small nitrogen supplement and iron, calcium, and magnesium additive. I wont use this until late veg. Just a good thing to have on deck. Also contains other trace minerals.) $14

PH Up/Down+ testing fluid - (USE SPARINGLY...very strong up and down formula..bottle of testing fluid is cheap and effective way to test water run off.) $10 a bottle+ $4 testing liquid

PH soil tester - (Metal PH soil tester..simple) $25

Organic Insecticidal soap w/ Neem Oil - (No problems with gnats, aphids, or anything yet. But I know how fast a problem can start and how its nice to combat it right away!) $5

In the future, there will be many more trips to the hydro store and much more ordering of products. This is all preliminary but should be enough to get me through most parts of the grow.

COMMENTS AND QUESTIONS WELCOME!!!!! This is my first organic soil grow, any advice from true green thumbs will be appreciated! Pics of plants and set up will be in next post...Im working on it!

On July 30, today, I took my 4 strongest plants and transplanted them into a 1gal pot. I used a 3/4 ff Ocean Forest, 1/8 vermiculite, 1/8 perlite mixture soil. Ive heard the soil is a bit "blanketing" when wet, so I used the perm/verm to aid with keeping the soil fluffy. I used a 1/2 gallon bowl of water and mixed in 1 capful of hygrozyme (no npk ratio, not worried about burn) and 1 drop of superthrive. They suggest 1 drop per gallon, But...I dont have a half-a-drop measuring cup . Anyway, I used a 16 ounce bottle to provide each gallon pot a bottle full of the serum. Hopefully they like there knew soil and water. This was the first time they were watered in 3 days and I will not water again Until August 1. I know overwatering is a big and common problem. I hope this will suffice. They are back under the 4 100w(eqv.) cfl lights. I plan on moving my operation into a grow tent with mylar walls. For now, $$ will not allow it and the glossy white walls are as good as it gets.

All my ladies (I hope) are still unamed. For now, until they develope alil more pesonality, they are plant 1, 2, 3, and 4. :)

Plant 1: lil stretched out... When i transplanted today, I buried her pretty shallow tho, making it appear worse.

Plant 2: looks a lil stressed fom transplant. Still... healthy.

Plant 4: Biggest fan leaves ..most vigerous...bes color. Topped her about 4 days ago.

Pic of the cfl's I have. 4x100w(23w) on them for now.
1st cfls.jpg

Again...Im not using my digital camera for these pics...theres not alot to look at yet so dont sweat the quality. When things get good...Mega pixels get better 8-)

Any questions, comments, suggestions....all are open with open bongs..uhh err arms!

If you add it up, it may sound like alot...but in the long run Its not that much. I have everything I need basically to grow from start to finish. CFL/soil will be hundreds of dollars cheaper than a hps or mh hydroponics set up. Plus, almost everything you need to grow is in the fox farm soil. The stuff is magic. I use a different group of additives and supplements every grow to really pick the ones i like. All part of the fun! for a few hundred, spread over a few months period, you can grow economically and successfully.

Right now, until my grow tent gets here...I have no reflector or reflective surfaces. Its as good as I can do for the time being. Today I put 200w(46w eqiv) more light on them

Hello once again! Welcome back to my Journal...For anyone that has stuck around...i have brought gifts!

Today is right around day 45 of veg. Since my last update, I have made alot of changes. I built a reflector out of a sheet of aluminum, chain, white spray paint (optional), 2 power strips, 2 way bulb splitters, and some j hooks. Very cheap/effecient hood.
lights 08.13.jpg

I also havent provided many pics but who really wants to look at a bunch of dime-a-dozen vegatating plants?

But here is some updated pics and info:

Here is all four of my plants. Recently I bought a 3x3x5 grow tent with mylar insides (Amazon ships free 85$) I have 12(23w) bulbs over the plants with the intentions of doubling or tripling that for flowering. 8 of the bulbs hang 1" or 2" above the plants and there is 2 bulbs in light clamps on each side of the plants forming kind of a "light box" around the plants.

2 of the tallest plants have been topped, I kind of lost track of topping but I have topped one plant at least 3 times. All for plants have been LST'd and bent this way and that to form lil bushy plants rather than tall skinny ones. It seems to be working fine with lots of new tops appearing everywhere. As you can see some of the plants have 6-8 top like growths in them.

To give you something to compare to them now, here is a pic taken of them exactly 30 days ago...

Here are some individual pics:

Shaq was my tallest plant. She also was a result of a tragic light falling accident!:-?
I tool the branch that broke off her and tried to save it. I cut it like i would a clone, planted in 50/50 soil perlight mix hoped for the best. mist if alot but if it dies, whatever! just a try.

Percilla is probably my best plant. She has a strong smell for veg. Lots of lil tops from bending her sideways lst with string and tape

View attachment 1158042
Shaggy was originally the "shaggiest" lant. I tilted her with string and made her get even more tops, but is still average.

LE is the most unique topped plant ive seen. It has 4 individual tops. Thee is little growth in the middle. If looking down on the plant...it make a big + with a top on the end of each point. its Acutally Split in the middle stem, but obviously it is not effecting it.

fan9.15.jpg
Currently I just have a regular window fan sucking in fresh air thru an open flap in the grow tent.

Also, Yesterday I transplanted into 5 gallon buckets in prep for flowering. I used a 15%perlite 10%vermiculite 75% FFOF mix with a handful of dolomite lime per gallon of soil. Been watering with de-chlorinated water, hygrozyme, a drop or two of superthrive per gallon, and use 1/3 strength cal/mag every third watering. I water every other day.

I plan to start flowering in the next two weeks..Ill keep everyone updated.

Sorry for being a sparse and shy contributor in ROLLITUP but I shall be around..Rep is appreciated!

Feedback/comments/questions are MORE than welcome!

Today is day 35 or so of floweing. After switching to 12/12...around day 10 into flowering....It as becoming obvious that there was 3 males and only 1 female  But hey...On the bright side, thats all my lights, love, nutes, and so on concentrated to 1 plant :-P.

all410.27.jpg
Here is a pic of all 4 of the plants. Only 1 ended up being female tho. But as you can tell, They are so beautiful!
wholenlightz10.27.jpg
Here is whats going on as of 10/27. I have one nice female. She stands just around 2 ft tall and 2.5f wide. Nice gentle female giant :D Those 2 Big ass CFL's that are hanging in the middle are 105w's. thats 210w's plus a total of 12 (24w) =288w. Close to 300w of cfl for one plant. Her smell is a dank, poo smell. The buds are still pretty soft and light looking. Its early still so I hope they tighten up. There is already a nice amount of trichomes developing on the litle sugar leaves. Heres some more porno

cola210.27.jpg

cola10.27.jpg
Couple cola shots. About a 5 or 6 inch cola so far.

I water 1 gallon of plain water every 3-4 days. Once every 6-7 days I feed her the Following mixed in with 1gallon of water( ph balance after nute adding) Ive been using:
tiger bloom 5ml a gallon
hi brix - 15ml a gallon
beastie blooms - 2ml a gallon
bud candy - 2ml gallon
catalyst - 10ml gallon
liquid karma - 10ml a gallon
1tsp Indonesian Bat Guano(0.5-12-0.2).
SSU - 5ml a gallon (foliar feed)

Temps are sometimes in the low 90's during the lights on faze....but often never break 85. Night teps are in the mid 70's. Humitity is bone dry, <20%. I heard trichome production is increased in low humitity.

Ill update soon.... Just waiting for some noticable change and ill keep y posted. Loos BIG to me :-P! Comments/Advice/Opinions/Questions welcome!
