Ballast on, pulsing light?

Yeah. The lumateks are just plain solid. The buzzing on the solis tek really is bullshit. It's vibrating the bulb! Which is NOT a good thing

Kind of funny.. I wrote you will be fire when I meant you will be fine. For what it's worth I have tried the 600 CAP and digilux bulbs side by side with 400w sylvania run at 600. Could not tell a difference in growth or health.

So I but sylvania by the case, drive them at 600 and then after 6 months recycle them. (MH bulbs wear out faster than HPS). Especially when your cooking them like I do.

Just give it a go. It's not going to explode. I promise you that.

Yeah I just got home and put my 600w hps in and it fired right up, once it cools off im going to try the 600w setting on the 400w halide. Hopefully irs just the cheap ass bulb the guy gave me. It came in the cardboard sleeve like the regular lightbulbs come in for christ sake. Its by a company named venture lighting. I believe it says E59 on the bulb, can any one elaborate as to what this number is? I see E27 or E29 on other bulbs or maybe is E37, I just dont know...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWrvcMqOsZI&feature=youtube_gdata_playerJust a video of what its doing from my phone for reference...

that shit dont mean nothing to you, they are all mogul base bulbs so you are fine. legally flying is right.... but always air the side of cation when playing around. i do many things like legallyflying is kinda saying unorthadox light bulb situation, but only in situations where i had too, but yeah there is a lot of "rules" with HID lighting that can be bent, its just not in your best interest to seek them out all the time. jus saying, hes not giving you bad advice, just be careful regardless, bulbs can be flawed and malfunction under stress.

In regards to driving a 400 bulb at 600... I would never do that without being in an aircooled hood. The bulbs get way hotter when you do that. I can't remember the number exactly but I measured it once with my infrared thermometer and it was on the order of 200 F more. Without aircooling you could cause a melt down.. which could cause it to shatter? Outside of a mess, I don't think it would really cause a danger. The digital ballast would shut it off as soon as the arc tube circuit became disrupted..and any "explosion" would happen inside your hood.

At any rate, EVERY grow room should have at least a small fire extinguisher mounted on the wall. They are $25 at home depot..

Ok well I just recieved the digilux dx600w halide in the mail today, I put it in and it fires right up no probs... Its funny that the grow store are the ones that gave a new bulb that was bad or not compatible, i would have expected this getting one in the mail. Now to call them and get my 45 dollars back! Thanks for the feedback guys, I for sure thiught the ballast was going to have problems igniting halides.

I just took the other bulb back and he fired it up in a magnetic ballast just fine. He said it mist just be compatibility issues with the solis tek ballast and "Super Bulbs". My guess is the super bulbs are tye egg shaped ones, correct me if im wrong. He also said i was the first to have compatibility issues with a solis tek ballast. I told him there is a first for everything.

no bulb shapes are different for ventilation reasons. no super bulbs, just bulbs built for digital ballasts and one for magnetic, some can be used on both, but this depends on the electricla circuit not the outer envelope shape.
