usually those ballasts are purchased to replace a bad ballast in a fixture. its best to have an enclosure of some sort to install the ballast. if the ballast or the wire connections ever spark, then an enclosure would contain the spark making it safer imo.

but some people use these type. i would mount it on a metall plate or something not flamable but still an enclosure is best. yes an extention cord would work but you will need to cut off the female end and connect the wires to the ballast. use a good extention cord and not one of those little ones you get for a table lamp or xmas treelight lights

search around some of the diy threads and im sure someone has used these and maybe has some pics in the thread.

as far as the enclosure goes i had been thinking of some ideas...i saw this forum on another site where a guy said he put his ballast "guts" in a first aid kit....anyway ill think of something thnk u sooo much for the help bro.....

just to be double sure....when you say female end you mean the end with the prongs on it right?

the end with the prongs will be the male.
the end without the prongs is female.

think about it male and female lol

remember to be safe and if unsure, make sure to ask around again for answers.

There looks to be a wiring diagram in the spec sheet on that page. Neutral to A2 on the core, live coming back from lamp socket. Did you get a capacitor with this kit?

i looked on the accessory page and see an ignitor. did you get that. i dont see the lamp holder. did you get one of those. the pic of the ballast is hard to see.

when i order a ballast replacement kit, it comes with the cap. and or ignitor. depends on if its MH or HPS ballast.
