Ballest cord

I just got a 400 watt HPS. I want to mount the ballest box outside the growroom, because the room doesn't need any more heat then the light will give off. My question is can i cut the cord, and hang the light, then wire nut the cord back together? the cord is about the size of a quarter.

I wouldn't. If you don't want to open the light and install a new cord all one piece then use a work box.... Nah on second thought do it right or don't do it. VV
