Basement Grow !Need Ideas!

I need some help with my design... so the area we are looking at is
width: 5 square feet
Length: 6 square feet
I was thinking of doing Screen of green and use 30 plants but I had a few questions like:
What kind of light should I use? (wattage, etc)
Also would I need fresh air coming in (since its a basement with ventilation?)
Should I put a carbon filter in the ventilation and add a outake fan to increase airflow and desmell air?
How long do you vegg plants for in screen of green?

Peace :blsmoke:

Go get :
2 600 watt hps
1 roll of black and white polly (45-60 ft should be more then enough)
1 400cfm fan and cabon fliter combo
get 30 2 gal pots
1 bail of pro mix
6 2x2
Tape
Staples
bungy cords for stink can
4 inch ducting
2 16 inch os fans
And some cheap 2 part hydroponic liquid nutes

And if you think you really need it get a tds / ph combo pen but if you follow the directions on the nutes with med feed you shouldnt really need it .

when construction the room make sure you have your all that equpiment on more then 1 20 amp breaker.... you can run your fan and light off one breaker and the other light and 2 fans from the other safely

check out my 'how to make a scrog' link in my sig. Try doing that to make the screen. Just make it bigger, and maybe put 2 of them next to eachother so its not one huge thing. Id make them maybe 3x2.5 feet. it took me about 20 bucks at lowes, and a few hours putting it together. the hardest part was making sure the wood is all 90 degree angles. i thought it would be putting in the eye screws, but those turned out kinda easy, just tedious.

oh yeah make sure to build it in the basement, otherwise youll never get it through the door lol

good luck

just one q: are the 2 600 watt hps good for flowering too? how many watts per plant will it be?

THanks :)

Ideally you need 1500w of light, but i think 3 400w bulbs would be your best bet, more lumens, and you can spread the light more easily.
I wouldnt get black and white poly, go for diamond mylar sheeting.
You are better off going for less plants but larger pots, you will get roughly the same yield, and if the feds catch you it will be much easier for you to claim it to be a personal grow.
Fan wise i would go for a 6" inline fan with a carbon filter attached for the exhaust, and a 4" inline for intake to create negative air pressure.

i dont have an idea about vegging lengths, depends how high you want them, remember they double in size during flowering.

THanks for the help guys! My main purpose is achieving a big yield, the first post was ruff estimations of mine (i happen to be really bad in math). Im not sure how many plants will be perfect for such a space. 1 plant per sq foot? how much would be a average off a plant- scrog - with 2 600 watt?

Well you need space to walk around the plants so you only really have 20 square foot to work with.

http://www.thegardensuperstore.co.uk/acatalog/Heavyweight_Square_Plant_Pots.html

You will need the largest pot, which are 0.672744401 square feet each.
Now you have 20 square foot divide this by the size of each pot = 29.7 pots you can fit in this space so call that 30 pots.
However i dont know how you will water the plants in the middle? Are you using hydroponics? Or growing in soil? Im not familiar with the SCRoG method.

Just looked up SCRoG, for a 1000hps screen size should be 4.4ft x 4.5ft, you are gonna have 1200hps so it should roughly be the same size, as i said go for a 5ft x 4ft screen. You also need your lamps around 24 inches+ from your plants. I recommend you search for a SCRoG guide on google i'd recommend the one on grasscity.

Oh yeah the HPS will be fine with veg, if you have the money i'd buy some MH bulbs, but HPS will be fine, it does lack in the blue spectrum, but afterall you want red spectrum mostly as this is for flowering.

As i said before go for 3 x 400w HPS, but if you wanna save money 2 x 600w HPS is perfect.

Hope i helped.

do u have nutrients? what kind r u planning on using? what kind of soil? those r very important. i use jack's classic nutes and fox farm ocean forest. works great so far

couple of 600s can do well for yu.i'd get an inline hood design to reduce on heat and air exchange.heres mine . but i use a 1000 and a 600 and vent out the utility window.1,200.00 for this settup without odor control for the moment. gonna order a carbon filter for my inline fan ,it fits into the fan using flanges.i get all my stuff at www.discounthydro.com .light sets are with glass and hood ,bulb all in one .cheaper .

I agree with SkynkNYC's comments here. I am in the process of setting up a basement op myself so have looked into this a lot for a very similar sized setup as yours. I'd go with THREE 400w air cooled lights...something like Cool Sun 6" AC reflectors. Run those in a line with your intake coming in at one end and the exhaust exiting the room at the other end. Use a 6" intake and 6" exhaust inline high CFM fan with a stronger fan on the exhaust and about 1/4 to 1/2 strength of the exhaust on the intake fan. Definitely use mylar and line the first 6' or so of all the walls. You can use poly on the floors for some help with waterproofing. Can also use it to split a room into two seperate rooms (ie flower/veg) by creating a faux "doorway" with it using the tarp zip up zipper that attaches to it.

THanks guys a lot of good info on here. but i still have a few questions. My plan is to use low induction lights so I don't think I will have any heat issues. For a growing medium I think soil will be best because there is no water down there so it will be hard to transport. I will put some water proof material just in case and some reflective material around the plants. The measures I gave you guys was the area I cut out for the plants, I will have enough space to walk around. For watering I might do it by hand but I am thinking of getting a automated system. For a veg place for the clones and mother I was thinking of making a grow box and just put it somewhere in there. I have been trying to figure out what strain would be good for the setup but I can't... If you guys have any ideas I would like to hear them. But I want it to be something special :D I'll probably be using some dutch nutrients btw.
my questions-
Do I need fresh air coming in? Because the vent down there just takes air out. My idea is too put a outtake fan and a carbon filter in there.
WHat would the temp be like during the winter?
