I am in the planning stages of building a grow room. I need some advice on lighting, the area is 10'x5 i already have 2 separate areas for mother plants and drying. i am thinking of splitting the area to have one larger area for flowering stage and a smaller side for veg. stage. i have found 1000w hps/mh lights on a switchable ballast. how many should i need ?

For a good yield Flower room minimum 1000 watts for 6x6 area = 36 square feet. In veg you can use a lot less as long as you get tight inter nodes and good growth.Keep the mothers happy you don't want fast growth but they need to be healthy. They don't need all that much light depending on how many plants you will have and don't use to much fertilizer on them until you're almost ready to cut clones. I"m not good at writing might thoughts down hope you can use some of this.

Use the Mothers area as a cloning station and take the cuts from the flowering plants. Build 4x4 tents with 600W lights and start Soging the hell out of your basement for max yield

its sounds like a nice sized area upon which one 1000watt hps light should be surficient for the flowering section. the veg part of the room I would run 18w 6500K cfl's. the number would depend on the size of that room the number of plants the size of the plants. I have mine hung from the ceiling and can freely move them and adjust the position and height. Thats how mines setup anyways but I only have a 400 watt light for flowering. its covering 4x4 area which I know it could use more light but most of my plants are in a 3x3 area and I have two 2700k cfl's hanging between the plants. hope this helps
