Best light setup for yield 20×20 room

Nice grow with the tubes. Ever thought of switching to thermaflow or other insulated ducting? It will reduce heat radiating back into the room.
It wasn’t around back then. This is from 2005-6. Insulated ducting was pretty new in 6-8” diameters back then. The 3/8” thickness of the 18” PBT rigid duct collars collars we made insulated pretty well. With 450cfm per 3 lights and virtually no bottlenecks, this room ran pretty damn cool considering! Hanging the lights 16” from the canopy didn’t hurt either. The only way to get around the inverse square Law and glass...

The entire 20 by 20? Would that be efficient and worth it lol
Yes but you’d need 3 or 4 per 4x8 to do it right. Initial investment could get spendy. I see some true 1000w cmh coming soon that would require 2 per 4x8 and would smoke a DE setup

There’s quantum board kits too. Think you can get 640w versions that would exceed a 1k DE in performance with the temps of a 600w HPS

I have cobs and Quantum boards, two of the 265w kits, which is much the same as the HLG550, they perform very well. Certainly both beat my old HP set ups.
Yeah I can wait to pop 15#+ off 4590 watts of lighting and 1800w of AC. Talk about maximizing gpw per kWh! The real benefits from these QB’s is that these lights naturally kill the stretch dead in its tracks so you can STACK!!! Imagine a world where OG’s don’t end up 2-3x as tall and not needing PGR’s like bushmaster to inhibit vertical growth. Pretty crazy! I’m so excited to run GG4 under these. I also hear that these lights can finish blooms 5-10 days earlier than HPS.. that could mean 6 blooms a year with the shorter cycle. I’m not even mentioning the trich increase!

Utilities prices are only going UP! In order to make a living in this industry, you need to keep your utility costs down as well as your expendable costs on media and fertilizer. As an EX Advanced Nutrients tech rep, I can tell you that Jack’s or Maxibloom will be your best friend! (That or organic compost teas and full organics) but I love K.I.S.S method!

they cover a 4x4 area, less heat only 315w ballasts are connected to the light so less chord lying around. so for a 20x20 youd need roughly 5 to 6 lights
4x4 in a 20x20 = 25 lights if the whole area is to be illuminated.

From what I have seen most people running 315s don't like to go over 3x3 for flower. But I haven't seen many using them in multi light situations, so possible it would cover much better.

No. A 315 Cmh covers a 3x3 to as much as 4x4 area, but I’d personally rock 3 over a 4x8. It’s only 945 Watts with great coverage. I’ll be trying the iluminar 315’s and 630 duel bulbs soon enough for some myth busting. Stay tuned

Exactly what I just said! Thank you!

Let me also point out that flower prices are plummeting while utilities are constantly rising. If you want to be profitable in this game, spend the money on the gear; not the expendable Nutes, media or utilities!!

So 2am is the sweet spot around here.. good to know! I’ve been turned off by the lack of replies mid day. Glad you guys are getting something out of this convo! I’ve been doing this a really long time and I thought that the days of posting on forums and getting anyone to read was over! I used to be a mod on the AN forums and a mentor on ICmag. I just want to help. Thanks everyone that has contributed this far! I’m a consultant now, but it feels really good to give back, free of charge! Thank you!
