Best SCROG Screen???

I'm going to do a scrog, but don't yet have the screen. What are the ideal characteristics of a good scrog screen? And is there a way to DIY the screen from common household parts? I am somewhat limited in what I can get my hands on as far as going to home depot and buying the best case scenario, so what are some good alternatives? I looked on google and saw quite a variety of different types of screens. I know it's not super important what kind of screen it is, but what do you RIU members recommend?

Home depot. Trellace netting. Looks like soccer net. Its like 2$ for a 8x10 area.Build the screen frame out of pvc. Put screws in pvc and wrap net around it.

Mine's 2x1 wood, screws, string and staples.
I think pvc pipe would eliminate the risk of moisture absorbtion and mould to follow.
Synthetic string beats my natural fibre stuff which I've managed to snap whilst drunken training.
That garden netting is probably easiest and best in many ways, but string can be manipulated to say fig your hand through the screen if you need to.
Wire mesh may be a bit 'sharp' and could damage shoots.
Adower's pretty much nailed it on the first reply. I;d only add the cable/zip ties would make fixing net to frame easy and secure.
2 inch squares is the general consensus.

2x4's cut to the length you need. Screws. Eye hooks. + HIGH VIZ string line.

this how I made mine. Hang it how you want it with adjustable pulleys. Easy as fuck. Cheap. plus high viz line ( i used pink) is super you can see it no matter how thick the canopy is.

ah yes, some good ole string, great idea! It seems to me though that it shouldn't be absorbent or it could acquire mold and the like. Some plasticy string would be great, maybe some thick fishing line or something. That should be easy enough to find. I was thinking before about wire screens that are premade like for shelves which was what I was trying to avoid. I was considering unwinding some wire clothes hangers and weaving them together, but that seems unnecessary now. I'll just get my hands on some synthetic string! Thanks for the help!

Builders line would be perfect. Really hard wearing, comes in long rolls and probably a choice of colours.

I always used stuff like hortitrellis but it has larger 6" squares. Works great for scrogging two plants over a 4 x 12' area. Probably not much help on a small scale. Stretch it tight and it won't sway/sag. Avoid the string netting sold cheap at hydro stores, it's stretchy and weight makes it sway and sag badly, useless as tits on a nun. Also string with little fibers usually contaminates nug ;(

If you go to fencing area at home despot, you can get varying sizes of chicken wire and plastic wire. Super cheap and easy, works like a champ.

just wanted to give an update and show this awesome scrog screen i made, out of clothesline and a window screen frame that was amazingly the perfect size (proof of God?). It was a pain in the ass getting the right tension on the strings because any pressure would twist the frame, but it worked out in the end which is what matters.



BTW, when I go to flower her, should I do a final tuck immediately prior to switching to 12/12 or should I let it grow through a little bit before switching?

looks good but if pressure is gonna twist the frame you may want to reinforce it somehow because the plant is gonna put all sorts of pressure throughout the netting.
