Hello roll it up this my 2nd post so bear with me.

I have just been introduced to winterization and have a nice batch I would like to clean up a bit.

Im aware of most of the solvents used for this process, but still have a few questions

What is the most effective solvent ?

What is the cheapest solvent?

I have a friend who uses ever clear to clean his but I hered when evaporated it will leave behind sugars and starches
True or false?

And if true, would vacuum purging take care of the sugars and starches?

Very sorry if this has been covered but I couldnt seem to find it

We use 190 proof Everclear. It is less polar than Methanol, but more polar than Isopropyl and food quality.

Methanol would be best, and Isopropyl is the worst for the purpose, but the cheapest. 190 proof Everclear is of course the most expensive, because of taxes.

Vacuum purging won't remove sugars and starches, but they aren't present at any significant levels in Everclear anyway.

i was wondering the exact same question, and Ive heard that everclear can have additives for flavoring and such, but 99% iso is only 99% as well... ive heard about denatured alcohols but im not quite sure where to find them

Still a few mixed answers so I guess its time to experiment
I'll do ever clear first since I already have it

Anyone ever hear about Alchemical Solutions neutral grape spirits?

They mentioned using this for winterization in the latest high times I read.
I have found it for sale on organicalcohol.com

Pretty interesting they also have alcohol made from corn, and cane

Is this old news?

To some, yes. I've seen that stuff and its pretty pricey. Everclear is made from corn I believe.

The fruit based 190 proof works as well as the grain based 190 proof. Both are an azeotropic balance of ~95.6% ethanol, with the balance water. You can get the same thing at http://www.winechateau.com/
