How exactly does an auto flower strain work? and why is it called auto-flower?

Of course the problem is that if you like a sativa high instead of an indica buzz a PC grow or a box grow or a cabinet grow or a small/short height closet grow picking a sativa to grow can be a real problem since they tend to want to become very tall plants and since they do not produce as heavily as indica strains do if you throw them into flower very early your yield will not be all that rewarding or anything to brag about. You really need to pick an indica or heavily indica dominant strain for smaller areas.

There are a number of ‘dwarf’ strains to pick from that might be decent options for your situation. Some have enough sativa in them to get at least a decent head high along with the stone the indica will give you so you may want to check them out.

One place to go to check them out would be Attitude Seeds. I am not recommending them and I am not knocking them. Many people here love them and claim to have used them many times and had fast delivery and received quality genetics. I have only tried them once so my personal experience is highly limited but in my case the delivery was slow. They say 7 to 10 days for international orders and using the track and trace feature I kept tabs on what was going on daily and at 10 days my order had not left the UK yet BUT it had been in the hands of Royal Mail very quickly so I tend to blame both Royal Mail and the USPS for the slow delivery and not Attitude and most likely I was the rare exception when it came to what seems to normally be fast delivery.

Ok .. back to beans … if you go to their site you will see among the breeders names Automatic Flowering Dwarfs and also Lowryder Seeds. I cannot attest to the quality of their genetics since I have never tried either but you may want to consider picking something from one of their lines since they both seem to specialize in short strains for people with height/space limitations like yourself.

Of course it would not be a bad idea to check out various ‘normal’ strains known for not being tall plants and then throwing them into flower early to keep their height down so if you go there to check things out it might be good to look around before jumping on the first item you see that sounds good and seems to be something that will suit your needs.

You can find them using the following link.

If you do not find something there you care for, which I have to believe you will be able to do, you can use the following link to a ratings site and then click on the different seedbank names to go to their sites so you can then explore them and see what they have to offer.
