big cardboard cfl growbox, skunk and purple voodoo

greetings fellow smokers of the magical plant,
im farely new to the whole growing scene, but i am giving it another try. Last time i got spooked out lol and ripped my 2 month old baby out. This go round i will be using regular skunk beans, as well as purple voodoo. Here are most of the specs of my grow,
-started in a one and a half ft tall by two feet wide box that was about 1 ft deep.
-using mg 3 month potting soil,21-7-10, 4.99 home depot
-two 12in bowl reflectors , 20.00 home depot
-two ecosmart 42 watt 2,700k cfls home depot 20.00, each give 2,800 lumens
-two sylvania 23 watt 6,500k home depot 10.00, each gives 1,450 lumens
-two ge 26 watt 6,500k cfls,home depot 10$ each gives 1,650 lumens
-also honeywell silent turbo force fan, 3 speed 3/4 ft tall same width, home depot 14.95
-six 1 gall pots with trays 7.00 home depot
-mg bloom booster,15-30-15 home depot 6.00
-brinks digital timer, 9.95 walmart
-standard 8 power strip surge protected, 12.00 walmart
-evian water 1.49 bottle local store, or smartwater case 9.00
-sale christmas wrapping paper, 70sf for 75 cents at walmart
-two rolls of trans tape , walmart 1.80

I had a cardboard grow box but I always got paranoid it would burn my house down lol but you will probably be fine. I just get paranoid sometimes when I smoke weed..

so im checking my babies out today, i have 4 seedlings growing and two sprouting. the four that are close to an inch tall all have purple stems, towards the bottom the turn white at the dirt...i have seen purple stems before and it was just a normal thing, currently im growing purple voodoo, and skunk 1. the problem is both the voodoos have puple stems as the skunks do. the leaves look extremely healthy.so im guessing this is just the norm?? will post day7 pics in alittle as there in there hour of darkness for the day. thanks for any help

let me tell you, this bud here is some super tasty, amazingly potent, and nice buds as well

this stuff right here is by far my fav up to date. it is so crystally,hairy, and the smell it just obnoxious,and loud.
but has an extreme amount of resin. my grinder filled with keef rather quickly,also started to make my grinder stick togeather.

With seedlings....don't drown them. It's easy to do so..

I haven't killed ONE to date! I've even had to pull a couple up and have re-pottd the taproot successfully, so I know they can handle some stress.
Check out my seedsling about 2weeks old in my sig bro.

I would say for the first 7-10 days just keep the topsoil wet around the stem by misting it maybe twice a day...Not spraying the seedling but the soil around it.
Also you have to water it good after that week until you see a little runoff, so that you know you don't have any dry spots in your soil. Your roots will dance around those dry spots, which mean less viable soil for you plant to use!

And keep the CFLs within 4" at all times...Moves them about 2-3" and keep them there at ALL TIMES one you notice your seedlings getting some size..
Put the fan on them after a week. That helps them stems. And you can also bend the seedling back a fourth a couple time per day to help strengthen the stem as well.

And the purp stems are norm. As long as they shoot where your new growth is coming from you're good. You just don't want purple and weak from a non purple strain.
The cardboard don't matter...The CFLS won't get hot enough to catch fire fam.

But that's a start for ya bro. Ask and you shall receive! At least what I do know and what I can find out!
Only condition is that you learn what you can by yourself and then ask questions haha! And return the favor when you can!

not much to say today, 5 out of 6 are growing good, they are developing the sec set of blades. hopefully it keeps going good. added 4 23watt 5000k cfls today so im pumping a fair amount of watts. and took one of the 40 watter 2775k out but still have one in the center for a little bit of mixed spectrum. im hoping for at least 3 females but im having trouble keeping the box below 79` its says at 78`-80`..... any help? should i move the fan

It helps me A GREAT DEAL bro to have my setup on the floor. My temps are around 72/73 becuase I keep the window cracked ans the house temps down.
And I've got a small fan oscillating about a foot away from my plants towards my lights, and a window fan in the bottom of my closet pulling cool air.

hey smokey...I first was using a mixture of 2700K 5000k 6500k which I thought was the best, but most are saying to only use the 2700K & 6500K....I guess the 5000K doesn't have enough value.

While in the veg stage, some say the mixture of lights should be 2:1 others say 3:1 (6500K:2700K)...and the opposite mixture for the flower stage 2:1 or 3:1 (2700K:6500K)

I'm using twelve 23W bulbs....eight 6500K & four 2700K for veg....for the flower stage it will be eight 2700K & four 6500K

BTW it's cheaper at Home Depot to buy the bulbs in the 4 pack, $17....it's kills what we have to pay for this stuff here in the great white north

well i grabbed a pack lol they said daylight and i realised what i had got. im gonna test the 5k out for myself and see how it goes, thanks for the feed back,

-day 9 update-

well today guys i had a little problem, my seedlings were seeming like a little weird. and by weird i mean growing at different rates, along with leaf development. So i did some reading on my soil, and it just seems everybody talk alotta smack about mg ie miracle grow potting soil. im afraid that the released nute system that mg uses is damaging my babies. so, i decided to change soil today and repotted the seedlings into mg seedling soil,.5/.5/.5 so they have risen a bit throughout the day and look a little better this evening.

the leaves are getting fatter and longer,, thank god lol
in other news i gave a very small dose of veg nutes, about one quarter strength
and also very good news, i was able to aquire a hydrofarm 1000 watt digi dimmable mh/hps light with air cooled reflector. thanks to a good friend, sometime after monday they will be going into the new closet which is 8ft tall 3 1/2 ft wide same deep. hopefully with the new 1000 light i will have a better last 2-3 weeks of veg and then in with the hps and off to flower, can anybody tell me what size pots i should use in the closet, i have six plants total, also i am in a area with no growshop.......so homedepot is my growshop along with lowes and walmart, suggestions on soil mediumn and nutes from this place would be sweet... thanks everybody

Your new 1000W light will kick-ass...lots of horsepower.

Can't give much advice as I'm a noob....it's best just to read, as advise seems to be few and far between....then you get conflicting advice and have no idea who to believe....

I'm trying not to ask too many questions as most don't get answered, so I'll just blunder along and hopefully not make too many serious errors

I'm using General Hydroponics Maxigro and Maxibloom....like it better than MG.

They seem to say the bigger the pot the better....so since you got the 1000W light I would go with a big pot....don't transplant until they are welll established in their current pots.

PS: take my advice like a grain of salt...and no need to send +rep....just trying to help

<- Check this out regarding a soil mix bro. Here are the recipes to my current soil mix, and my new and improved soil mix. I just use FFOF and get it right for the weed!

And bro...My very first light was a 1000w light haha! BE CAREFUL! If you're having temp issue with CFLs, that thousand watt is gonna make it impossible.
It's gonna bring the temp of your grow space up by like 15 degrees F. Literally. They're WICKED HOT! So DONT use it unless you can adequately cool it.
You'll kill your plants with it if you use it wrong, and itll only take a couple minutes to wreak havoc causing irreversable damage.
Burnt leaves don't fix themselves. They just die!

And everything looks good bro. When your plant come up some, I'm sure ppl will have more to say! Keep it up
