I am just getting into my first "indoor" grow under CFL's. I do a lot of outdoor non-weed gardening. ( yeah I know It' lame) which consists of making lots of good compost and teas.
:leaf:
The tea below is a fine blend of WELL rotted turkey turd, large amounts of WELL rotted seaweed, good quantities of compost and a smidgeon of crushed lobster bodies, clam shells AND fish crap scooped from the bottom of the koi pond.
:leaf:
It stinks a little when warmed up but I use this stuff in 5 gallon buckets on my outdoor plants by the gallon and they love it.
:-(
Am I looking at any drawbacks to using it indoors? I'm keeping it pretty weak for now but may use it at a stronger mix in the future...Looks good enough to drink don't it. Ha Ha.

It depends on how you plan to use it indoors vs outdoors. Are you using it outdoors with just regular dirt? Are you u planning to use a commercial soil mix indoors? I could see an over fert issue if you use it with commercial soils that already have nutrients inside. As always, start light!

Sorry if I'm long winded Frog but I just wanted this 4x2x2 ft box for starting next years outdoor chit. Outdoors I'm good indoors is a whole new thing. Always just started my outdoor grows real tight against plain ole florescent bulbs. Guess I didn't know better.
:-?
All of my tea goes right to the roots. Old watering rule of thumb is water the roots not the leaves. Sure cuts down on mildew on "some" plants. My one attempt at foliar on a larger scale resulted in a permanently clogged 2.5 gallon sprayer. I guess it didn't like all the debris floating around. As a compost and tea guy I hang my head in shame and admit that the only foliar to hit the leaves of my indoor grow was about 5% MG. I was really just trying to keep up the humidity. I just can't produce enough compost and tea's for everything I have outdoors.
I"m sure it's sumpin but I would love to know what FF soil has in it that mine doesn't. (Although I could be forced to try one of their liquids) sigh!!!!

Chaka.. My soil is all my own and it is as far away from garden dirt as you can get. The only nutrients that are in the soil are natural and I will be watering them them with my own teas or pond water. Can't beat good pond water unless you live where acid rain is a problem.
I will say that some of my teas are pretty potent so "going light" is a great idea. You can always add more nutes but you can't take them back.
Thanks.

It's not lame at all; every grower here would benefit greatly if they were to grow other things. Growing pot is no different than growing tomatoes, cabbages or peppers; it's basic gardening, not rocket science. I also picked up on your using "less" rather than more. + rep for that!

I think that teas are certainly fascinating, but it seems like more work than I want to do. LOL

There are some organics at Advanced Nutrients for MMJ that have been getting good results too - and you don't have to mix them up and hope for the best.

Grandma Enggy's F-1
Grandma Enggy's H-2
Iguana Juice
Mother Earth Super Tea
Nirvana
Organic B Vitamin Booster
Sensizym
Wet Betty
Bud Candy

I use Bud Candy in almost all of my MMJ grows, but the rest I can't really speak to. But heck, it helps to have as much info as possible.

I walked away from AN after the mislabling issue on the bottles. Time for another organic mix.

Cool! There you go! Making your own!

No need to spend money on overpriced bottles of mostly water. You will get as good if not better results with what you're doing vs using any hyped up product out there. And you don't have to follow some insane feeding schedule where you have to mix up ten different potions. If I was using soil I'd do just what your doing.

Meh...I think it's awesome that people are interested in using their own nutes. I gotta agree with the other dude on the thread though. Sometimes, they're more word than they're worth - for me anyway.

I would rather spend money on professionally made nutrients that have been researched by professionals with fancy schmancy labs. And I like the idea of a money-back guarantee. I mean, if I make crap, I'm left with MMJ that sucks. I can't get my time and money back.

And kilo810 - you are ill informed, dear sir. Read up and then talk crap.

So does AN pay you in cash or do they send you a check?

Making your own teas is easy. I simply fill a mesh bag with rotted seaweed (pond weed is cool too) along with some rotted dung of some source and stuff it in a bucket. Frankly just about anything works just fine. I have some big ass barrels out back I just keep filling with water. You know it's cooking/working when it has a head on it like a poorly poured beer. I can make it mellow for delicate stuff and more foul smelling than a rutting male goat.

I do have to say that I am refering to it's use in my garden around the house with just flowers and shrub type crap and in all honesty how do I really no what it's putting out of value?? Maybe I just think it's good cause it looks and smells good if you like the smell of well rotted shit.:-? Outside I put five gallon buckets of stuff so foul it's like low tide on shrubs and I don't ever think I have burnt anything.

I wonder how I could figure out what it's NPK's value ends up being? I'm betting pretty low in NPK but outstanding in the micro kind of stuff. The best part about teas are that they are free. These bottle nutes are pretty pricey, I know cause I bought foxfarms and AN. (sigh, freakin hypocrit) As far as a guarantee goes nobody ever actually "returns the bottle for a full refund" do they? Sorry for the ramble, I happen to be stoned.
