Big Light Leak for 2+ hours...

Hey everyone

currently got 2 girls in flower, week 6. C99 and OG Kush. Light 400w HPS on timer with filter and fan.

So I have a bit of a lazy set up in that I'm using a broken tent (main front zipper is broken so there's a big gap in the middle of the tent) in a spare room in which I keep the door closed to prevent light leaks. For some dumb reason I turned on the regular ceiling light (i never do this because the light from the tent is so bright you don't need to) and didn't realize it was still on when I left the room later. So long story short, I woke up at around 7:30am (about 2 hours after light goes dark for 12/12) and realized the ceiling light was still on in the spare room (so tent was dark but cause of gap quite a bit of light was getting in). Ran and turned it off, but now pretty worried about what might happen.

The C99 is looking like she'll finish soon, OG definitely needs time.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Just keep them off for an extra couple of hours to compensate.

Don't bother!

You'll see NO problem!
You're probably right - one short night is not likely to cause problems, but simply letting the lights stay off a couple hours the following morning would have made this incident a complete "non-problem"

A cpl of hrs means nothing.

I had a timer go out on me a few weeks back. The thing faulted to being power "on". I finally caught it 3-4 DAYS after it gave out. Yup, it was in a bloom room. Various days to weeks of different strains in there blooming (perpetual). Only 1 set of 2 plants have shown effect from the 72+ straight hrs of lights on. The buds have stretched and stacked a bit. NO herming either. I know for sure because I'm harvesting them now.....Made them run about 10-14 days longer...That's about it.

I was doing a Ghost cut OG in the outdoors 3 years ago. I put a few out for my personal every year...I have "in Plain sight" places that no one ever seems to "see". At one I had put up an automatic 250w CFL flood light. About 15-18 ft high and 20 ft from the plant.

I just plain never thought about it, till I was inspecting the plant in bloom. The side exposed to the light was running behind the back half of the plant. It was harvested back side first and the front came done 2 weeks later. Same thing, No herming or any other problem. Just slower and a bit more stretchy budding with closer node spacing. I yielded more on the exposed side...

In my years growing. I have never been able to confirm any real problems from light leaks.....I believe Cervantes mistakenly blamed "light leaks" on genetic breeding issues of the day..

I have found more problems from unintended, extended lights out times when in bloom...
In other words. It's more stressful to the plant to get "too much" lights off time..

Yeah, its got to be *in* the genetics for it to happen in the first place. I'm sure there are lots of strains that just don't hermie very much at all, no matter what happens.

Keep in mind Mr. Higgs. The ability to go "herm" (bisexual is the actual term). IS in ALL marijuana strains genetics!

Basically in the way modern breeding takes place. It generally takes several stress points for new age Femed seeds to herm...But given enough - they will all herm.

A friend called and was all upset. We had, had an 18 hr power outage a few days before. He had some plants from a strain running that he loves and I gave him a few years back. It was herming on him and he was just beside himself sad. "Did the power outage do that?" Not by it's self, I said. Let me come over and take a look at them.

I got there and looked. "You have high N and the power outage was at night. What was your temps when you came out in the mourning?" 38 and I used my propane heater for several hrs to heat the room (garage). "It's doing it from multiple stress points and the vegging ones, should not do that in bloom." He pulled naners for a week till they were done. His following rotation that was in veg. at the time. . . . Did not.
