They sell a netting at garden supply centers that i used to use.I did the shoot them and let them lay.It was a better attractant than any thing. The birds see one of their own and think it is safe, birds are dumb, they do not know it is dead.
I had as much trouble with turtles eating my tomatoes as birds.OPH

Try putting up a fake bird of pray like a large hawk er somthing. I have an owl one and crows hate that thing with a passion.

On the family farm I smoke one then sit and wait in the bush's and use a semi auto 20ga on anything that moves lol... lots of fun

try old CD discs hanging from twine and or maybe use some alloy foil pinched around some twine it reflects sunlight. for seedlings and young sprouts use old twigs scattered around the plants and hang foil around too act as deterrent. place feeder away from your plants or replace plant with feeder and relocate plant/s

a small table with some dried bird seed on should keep them away from the fruits. remember killing them aint gonna stop others coming but use them too your advantage, feed them bring wildlife into your garden.

reason they eating your fruit is thats the only thing they can find at that time. giving them a choice of easy seed and covering your plnats will work better than just killing for fun
