The abortive mushrooms are also high potency. Harvest them when they are young and before their heads turn black.

CONTAMINANT SOURCE IDENTIFICATION

Contaminant invaders appear in various colors from pastels to black. If they appear, the culture is doomed. Bacteria contamination is detectable through the top dry vermiculite layer as a sour foul odor within two days after inoculation (and no spore germination). If the jar is bacteria contaminated, be careful in cleaning it. Keep a safe distance from the contaminated substrate. Don't inhale the bacteria and wash after touching it. Bacteria can be dangerous.

4. The fruiting cycle lasts about 2 weeks. After the initial flush, the mycelium cake begins to turn blue and no more mushrooms form. If the cake is thoroughly cleaned of aborts and stray fungus blobs after the initial fruiting and given the PF double ended cake casing tek, fruiting can be doubled or even tripled.

the point is that SOMEBODY grew them, and that normally black denotes contamination(which is bad).

thats the info i see.

now i have eaten my own and they were aborts with black to very dark heads. BUT the full stem was white or blue due to bruising. i was fine. the blackness comes from the mushroom breaking down and ceasing too grow, therfore it recycles itself and rots away.

in fact in a dream, i just cleaned my cakes from all aborts and darkened or black caps. all very tiny(hence "aborts").

because i know where they came from and how they were grown, i feel safe to have them. if i didnt and i bought them i might be leary. then i woke up.


ps. i have also dreamt of making my own prints and having success.

have you not grown them for yourself?

they tend to develope pretty quickly, i rep'd you cause you been posting lots of good info so i just want you to know i am not trying to bust ya or give ya a hard time..

mine just fruited on monday and the biggest ones that just broke veil got picked tonight.
when i did that i noticed some small ones were darker. i refreshed my memory when i started reading this thread tonight and removed the ones that were small and turning black. yes they start to rot and breakdown.

pretty sure there is also a vid on youtube that i saw showing complete growth.

like i said, they just started to turn the caps black or dark, but the under side if i can see it is light and the stems are completely white.

these here are the third batch i have done and actually they are from a print i made myself and they are doing great.
i am not the most experienced and will be the first to admit that but i am still alive and i have had my own a few times.

Eating the wrong mushroom or a bad mushroom will get you very very dead. I would never trust someone else's opinion (especially if a profit is lurking) on a mushroom. The only TRUE way to ID mushrooms is by spore print.

Just remember that you take your life into your hands with mushrooms.....education is your only defense.

so yeah here is a picture. and yes i know exactly what ingredients went into making the shrooms.

i did say if i had to buy them and that is the condition they came to me i would be hessitant taking them.

forgot to add... here in the picture are the ones freshly picked. and no not the biggest ones. but you can see the four caps lined up facing you. one is large. two are smaller andhave black spots and the small one on the far left has a black cap. there is also a small double one at the bottom of pic with the caps facing away. they are black, but all stems are white.

Damn Those Were Rotting. Sucks Bro. I Don't Have Alot Of Aborts But When I Do They Can Get Pretty Black But Like I Said In Another Thread I Baby My Shrooms When I Grow Them And Always Examine EVERYTHING Carefuly.

really they are still quite firm so i believe 100% that its only the pigment and not so much the actual flesh, but yes too much time longer being wet would cause them to sog out and rot down,

that pic was taken with my cell phone so the detail is not great. the large one is a nice golden brown with a couple blue spots from where i handled it. they are all from a known strain too and i have eaten ones like this before with no ill affects.

IF they were SOGGY and SMELLY then i would have not. I HAVE THROWN MANY jars and cakes away due to contams, so i have become pretty familiar with what to let go and what to get rid of.


i have seen black, green, lipstick, and cobweb mold.
i am not THAT serious about it but i do enjoy playing and keeping interested in someting

i wil probably have to clean the two cakes i have now either tonight before bed or tomorrow morning. the rest should be done and ready for a second dunking.

while i have four more cakes i just put in the FC yesterday and i am waiting for pinning.
