blackening leaves?

I know there is a sticky in the plant problems forum with a chart but DAMN if i can find it right now. :eyesmoke: sorry. you can flame me if it helps.

anyway, this is a critical jack auto grown in a hempy bucket under a 400w hps 20/4 in a 2x4 tent. It was badly stunted early on due to poor lighting but came around when i got the hps. She finished ok, but took weeks longer than expected. It was looking fine, albeit thin, last week when i left on vacation. while i was gone, i had a trusted compadre water them for me at the same rate, the only difference being i told him to just water them, giving them a 7 day flush before today, for a hopeful harvest. When I came home I was shocked in both a good and a bad way. SHE GOT FAT. (unlike the gf, this is a good thing!) Many of the fan leaves are yellowing (natural), but some of them, particularly on the main cola, turned dark purple, nearly black, and are hard and crispy to the touch with upturned tips. I would have probably chaulked it up to nute burn, but they haven't had nutes in a week. It doesn't matter at this point anyway, I'm trimming her up right now, I'm just curious what it might be a symptom of or if it is a natural thing this strain does as it nears the end of its life? I'm just fascinated by the plants and I want to know why they do what they do. Thanks for any help you can give me!!! :peace:jeanie1.JPGjeanie2.JPG

ok....nute burn is the easiest thing to spot. the blade tips will start tturn brownish only at the veeeeery veeery tip and that is ok kinda the plant saying hey ive eaten enough, and when i juuuuust start to see that i know that my feeding schedule is good, continue to it them harder at that point though and you will have adverse effects...now as for the purple this can be caused multiple ways one is cold temps..but what you have here is from the "flush" you gave it. your calyxes swelled you said and that swell of growth sucked the last of the nutes out of the leaves this is absolutely fine since your chopping but had you done this a week ago you would have lost some weight and harvested early..so no problems..sometimes the color change is more prevolent by strain as well

Some strains just have a tendency to turn darker colors late in flower, especially in the winter when temps are below normal. The buds will also have a dark color to them once dried.

looks pale. could be a deficency, but if youve fed once or twice, it could be the soils too wet. let soil dry out, and see if it returns to its color. if not, and you havent overfed, feed with 1/2 strength nutes once

if you fed more than twice in its life, it could be nute burn. for nute burn, rinse soil with double the size of the container, then let soil dry out.

leaves usually change colors with the cooler temperatures. the hot temps will make it change another color.

the buds themselves look heathy and swollen. it could just be at the end of its life, and its sucking the rest of the energy out the leaves for its buds.

how old is she? how long does the strain take on average?

dude what are you talking about lol...he already said hes harvesting first off and what do you mean could be nute burn if you feed it more than twice. i feed once a week! no nute burn ever..if you start with supersoil then you should only feed once or twice or top dress but you didnt specify that nor did he

exactly, im just giving the full range.

if youre close to harvest, then the plants normal. its sucking up all energy for the buds.

I'm pretty confident it's not nute burn, just wanted to make sure something wasn't going wrong with her. i didn't think this strain had any purple in it. It looks great, though. they were grown in hempy buckets with 3:1 perlite/vermiculite, so they were fed every day, beginning with water and increasing nutes. they never ended up getting more than 1/2 strength and they were happy and healthy the whole time so i didn't push them. i think part of it too was the shock of having not seen it in a week and coming home and it's turning all kinds of weird colors. my first time out i made the inevitable rookie mistake of getting all excited and harvesting early, and this is my first time indoors, so a lot of uncharted territory here. I appreciate the help and info though, RIU has been a Godsend.

im not used to that. i mix organic earth (potting soil w/ perlite and coco, plus my compost, bone meal, feather meal and potash), feed 4-8 weeks later with fish emulsion, and then once again in flowering with fish emulsion and thats it.
