There are strains that have blue hues but its more of a degree of purple. It can also get red/pink. Both shades are results of the same thing. The plants chlorophyll being destroyed and other things being created within the leaf. Can't think of all the scientific names off the top of the head. lol . the color it turns near the end of flowering has to do with the internal ph of the water in the plant. This is genetic but I always thought of trying to turn a purple plant red by messing with the ph late in flower. I think internal alkaline water makes it red and internal acidic water purple but it could be the other way around. Look up strains like blueberry, Blue mystic, and big bad john to see some fat colas with blue hues.

ok thanks for the help :)

i have grown a couple blue mystic but they never turned blue... idk if maybe they got mixed up when shipped or something but ya mine turned out nothing like the pictures...

Actually, the color change is mostly due to temperature. A large swing of more than ten degrees between night time and daytime temperatures will cause any plant to start to turn purple. There are purple cells in every plant but moslty covered up to the large amount of green cells.

^ homeboy is on target with this one. Also subs super soil really brings out the colors in the plants. Althought the temp swing will cause bud production to slow so if u wanted purp just lower ur temps about a week left til harvest.
This girl i used to sell too told me she just had sum blu shit. I was like ya okay bitch. But when ingot there she had a pic and no shit it was blue. Like actually blue. No green whatso ever.

No it has to do with genetics. Temp swings of 15 degrees or so will help bring out the color but the potential to turn purple has to be there. If you read a little deeper its the lock up of p within the leaves which destroys the chlorophyll and brings out the color. Temp swings will help this along in strain that has color changing potential. This also makes Anthocyanins which produce terpenes in the plant as the chlorophyll is being destroyed. Gives the purple its strong fruity flavor.
