BONUS BUD -- Another reason to love AFs

I grow autoflowers exclusively now. I have had great success with a 5 week shelf system where I veg using CFLs and move them down to 400HPS for flowering. My last grow I had a weird Pakistan Ryder AF seeding that I was convinced would not make it -- so I started a Low Ryder 2 to replace her. Of course just as the Low Ryder pops, the Pakistan decided to thrive; thought about tossing the LR2...but couldn't bring myself to do it.

This left me with a 5th wheel that I did not have a proper spot in the grow closet for. I placed the Low Ryder on the edge of my middle shelf with some ambient light and a single 200W VEG CFL for her entire grow. I didn't pay much attention to her outside of good soil etc. Not bad for a plant I considered tossing out:

Rest of the grow looks good. I still have two more to harvest. I ended up harvesting the above LR2 and two of the Pakistan. Here are some early early AM photos...too dark outside to get great photos:

Just felt like sharing some AF love :peace:

Harvested the last girl from this grow. All other plants have been harvested -- dried to a crisp and have yielded 9.7 Oz. This last plant was the largest, and I would guess approx 4Oz-5Oz. Not bad for a 400w hps soil grow.

Rather long main cola with a few side colas:

I harvest every 5 weeks...multiple shelf set-up:

3 shelf harvest plan.jpg
I should have been more clear. My CFL shelf is a bunch of veg CFLs (8x200w)...there is more going on in the room than just a 400w HPS; without the need for separate light schedules...an added benefit is all the ambient light in the room -- prolly helps out a bit for overall growth.

every 5 weeks approx 12oz harvest. This harvest will be closer to 14oz because of the bonus LW2 Auto. I do not futz with my plants much...don't LST -- just rotate them a bit when they are small enough to do that. I will try a SCROG on my flower shelf at some point.

Black gold organic mix --They sell a few kinds, the organic is a great blend with good drainage. I use 3 gallon fabric pots as well. The soil is so spongy, that I find myself compressing it into the fabric pots...I would never do this with other kinds of soil blends. I have noticed that, at one Fred Myer in particular, they don't care for their garden soil well; super waterlogged bags, and I have purchased some that smell rancid.

So I guess I'll reiterate, but what kind of soil do you use? Just curious, cuz your plants look super healthy... Are you saying you use Black Gold Organic Mix?

My last grow was Black gold no nutes. I did not top or fim the plant just ran a white rhinox white widow feminized see....Black gold traditional straight from bag to container. I water using a wicking system old school learned it in the 80's never changed. No need to over water or under water.

This was my first go with black gold regular Harvest wet was 5.2 oz dry finished at 120 grams or 3.2 oz

I have grown with cheap ass lowes soil since 2008 and this was my first harvest with a plant over 2 oz

In retrospect i was never fiming or toping just five or six plants minimal care no nutes

Black gold soil can def grow some good plants start to finish.

I would love to know what other shit box store brand matches up to this if nothing does at least i know that i have a good choice for non FF no self mixed soils.

I am using the organic this run changing up a few things and making more of an effort to get better at yielding since its a risk might as well have a great reward.

Try Pro-Mix Ultimate Organic, it doesn't have the EWC, but it has a seabased compost and dolomite lime along with mycorise.
