I agree with 420cut, offering a cut or paying him off is usually the best option. Not only do you take away the motivation of stealing them, you will look like a very generous cousin and hopefully he will also keep his mouth shut.

First rule of growing; Dont tell anyone!! But if for some reason you have to tell someone,ie roommate, girlfriend, best friend, give them a cut or pay them off. Cover your roommates rent for a few months, buy your girlfriend something nice or cut them in on the buds. People will do crazy things out of spite if they are pissed off. Take care of the people who know about your grow and they will take care of you. Or you can feed him to some pigs

I just attempted my first outdorr growing session and the only person that knows about it is my pops, and he and I will be smoking it up together so I gots no worries from him I only planted 4 plants and one didn't grow up so well, 2 are decent looking ladies, and one is a male (those dam little grapies look like nuts all over the dude ) You could try establishing a colony of badgers, wolverines or tasmanian devils near your plants, that would certainly keep anyone away hehe.
