Got pretty much everything I need right here I hope, minus the spores (ETA: 2 days). I'm using PF Tek and working with Cubensis strains; if there's anything anyone would like to share feel free. Can't wait to get started on these bad boys!

ahaa yeah man i was ready to get started! Hopefully i've done everything right so far, but here are 3 (there's a total of 6) of the sterilized/inoculated jars that i just started incubating today.

Hmm, been too many years (couple plus decades actually), but if you're dumping those out after inoculation, those jelly jars can be problematic.

I recall having better luck with the smaller "wide mouth" ones ... No upper lip and a gradual taper to the design so you can just dump them out without damage or bruising.

Saw perlite so I'm assuming a tub or similar for the grow chamber straight up and not just to make an inoculation base for a larger tub ...

Yeah I was thinking that, but I had already started this first set before I found out about it. I'll definitely get the wide mouths for my next set, hopefully these ones don't get completely ruined.

I was thinking of using that blue bucket in the picture, think that'll work with a transparent cover and holes drilled in the sides too? I would be using a fluorescent light over the top

I would think so. Tub is a tub. Main thing is proper air exchange plus humidity control. Like most saps in a bygone era, used regular aquariums with somewhat less than optimal results. Only problem with the painter's pail approach is amount of square footage surface to play with. Height is nice, but cakes do tend to do better from the sides for some reason. I swear the little bastards just love to defy gravity. In slow motion, but I still always thought of them saying "weeeeeee" when growing out at odd angles. (Yes, I know that's silly, but I am easily amused.) Or you can really go off the deep-end and get into the shared consciousness aspect with fungi. I'm still not sure on that one. Call me an agnostic of sorts.

Also smaller cakes were better. Stacking cakes worked out better than larger cakes. Was also less painful to toss a bad inoculated one out or exchange between flushes ones that crumbled.

Still, trying to picture this stuff from memory is like looking into a cess pool. I can almost make out the bottom, but its been too long.

Hopefully the experts around here that are active will chime in any time with some helpful suggestions. (hint hint)

Oh, and its not rocket science. Just have to find out what your contamination levels are and all the rest. Some places are more fungi prone than others. Healthy cakes tend to ward off the worse of it, but that was a major headache I eventually solved by removing carpet and learning lots of other near clean room practices to avoid. Arid environments oddly have more problems than you'd think with that sort of thing.

Rather miss growing them. *shrug* Just dont go chasing rabbits as much anymore.

Even though they're coming up a bit slower than I thought they would, I'm pretty sure these are good signs. Or it could be cobweb mold....but I can't really tell yet. Any ideas?

mms_picture (8).jpg Had to go outta town for the summer so I haven't been with the jars but they're STILL colonizing. I think they're taking so long because i used pint jars for a 1/2 pint jar recipe. Still no bad signs though, just waiting on the bottom to fill up.

Yeah dude I was surprised they were still going, hopefully nothings wrong.
I'm hoping they'll take like 2-4 weeks longer, but we'll see.
