Just grow out a pack of regular seeds of each, select the nicest male&female from each, inbreed those, then plant all the seeds produced.. Now from the thousands of each strain, just select a few dozen to a few hundred of each based on vigor and node spacing both males and females, label, and clone them all..
[Ok, you don't 'necessarily' need that many, but the larger your selection/results pool, the better you can deduce the genotypes, and the better your chances of finding a special rare pheno that could be stabilized..]
Now decide which traits are important to you, and as your breeding program sets off, keep DETAILED records of the which crosses produced good results for each trait.. You'll want to read up on Mendel and Punnet squares, backcrossing/cubing, and inbreeding depression to be able to look at your results and make logical decisions for obtaining, and locking in the traits you desire..
To make a long story short.. Making viable seeds that will give you quality, but unpredictable results are easy to make.. Creating a 'strain' is a whole different ball game.. Choices regarding your game plan are as important as choices regarding selection.. Trying to lock in too many traits is bound to screw up any stability, but locking in traits is the whole point of breeding.. The trick is to find a happy medium regarding your game plan between super-chronic and stability..
Edit: I haven't come across any info regarding gender specific traits either..
