lol...

Cannabis vendors in Vancouver have returned to Robson Square despite a police raid Sunday night that resulted in arrests and the seizure of their products.

"Bring it on," says vendor Colton Mulvale, who was selling dried marijuana under a pop-up tent Tuesday afternoon.

Mulvale and a small group of self-proclaimed cannabis activists say they will continue to openly sell dried and edible cannabis products despite the risk of arrest.

They say they're helping those who need cannabis by providing affordable dried marijuana and by selling edible cannabis, which isn't available in the city's licensed dispensaries.

The vendors set up shop barely two hours after Vancouver police held a media conference to outline the steps they are taking against the vendors.

Stepping up enforcement
Deputy Chief Const. Howard Chow with Vancouver police said officers have arrested four people on 11 charges of drug possession and trafficking, and they have plans to arrest a fifth person.

"It's evolved significantly over the last number of months. This has required us to step up enforcement," Chow said.

"What we were starting to see was a larger quantity being sold, reports of hard drugs being offered such as cocaine, reports of marijuana being offered to teenagers."

Chow said officers seized:

  • More than nine pounds of dried marijuana.
  • 23 pounds of edible cannabis.
  • More than $4,000 in cash.
  • A baseball bat, pipe and baton.
  • Used drug paraphernalia including scales, bongs, and grinders.

Officers have been monitoring the situation at Robson Square for several weeks under what Chow called "Project Apprentice."

Police say the four vendors who were arrested have been released under the condition not to be found back in the 800-block of Robson Street, but police added that one person was arrested yesterday for breaching the conditions.

Chow warned that undercover police officers are regularly patrolling the area.

"For any of the traffickers, your next sale may be to a police officer," he said. "We're going to sustain the [police] activity on this."

'The craft market of B.C.'
Anne Genovy was also at Robson Square alongside the vendors Tuesday afternoon.

Genovy said the vendors are helping those who need medical marijuana and providing an alternative to the products that are available through dispensaries.

"It's the craft market of B.C. We're showing the public that there's also alternatives to buying from a [licensed provider] or a dispensary," she said.

The vendors at Robson Square are "saving lives," according ot Genovy, by providing edible marijuana not available elsewhere, and by selling their products at cheaper rates — they say they're only charging $5 per gram, as opposed to the $12 per gram available in dispensaries.

Marijuana legalization isn't set to arrive in Canada until July 1, but in 2015 Vancouver became the first city in Canada to regulate and licence dispensaries. The stores pay the city up to $30,000 for the privilege to sell pot.

Vancouver Coun. Melissa DeGenova told CBC last week that she's heard from licensed vendors who say the stalls at Robson Square aren't fair to those who have paid for the licence.

I see these guys all the time, they give cannabis users a bad name. They are simply low level pot pusher, they do more harm than good IMO. I hate to see anybody being persecuted for cannabis, but these fellows aren't the sharpest tools in the shed.

Yeah, I seen them on my recent trip, a roving circus of junkies. Watch out you do not step on a sharpie, seriously.

So what's the difference between these guys and the guys at the dispensary? These guys are charging less...I see the "sick" peeps coming out of the dispensaries here...6 did I mention that for a town of 10k....hmmmm....I agree they make cannabis users look bad, but nobody said you had to be smart.

Hey, I'm cool if you want to buy your medicine from a homeless guy on the street corner for $10/gram.....these dealers are praying on tourists, under the guise of helping "patients" they may fool some people, but for those with a brain it's obvious what's happening.

I dunno, but I'm willing to bet that someone with pounds of cannabis, oils, edibles, and large quantities of cash are probably not homeless meth addicts. Why they would have sharps or hard drugs is an absurd thought as well, since none were found in the seizures.

They may not be licensed. They may not be smart. But they aren't homeless bums selling meth and phentanyl infused straw either.

I don't have much sympathy for theses guys. Selling like they are is flaunting the law and cops have no choice but to respond to complaints. That's where the idea of tax-free loans for entrepreneurs comes in. Give these people the chance to become tax paying business owners rather than taking away their source of income. I'd much rather give someone a hand up than support them on welfare.

I don't and I don't....I buy from another patient who graciously helps me by selling to me for really cheap...and I always have choices...I can't afford $10 grams on a disability pension....I guess tourists don't visit the dispensaries selling $10+ grams...the train has left the station...

....there was a convo earlier about people following the price...I guess I was round about commenting on that...people will seek the lowest price and choice-that is not going to be LPs.

I guess the year I spent volunteering as a DG, and the hundreds if not thousands of cookies I made and donated don't count, or the dozen or so patients I've helped become self sufficient in the last year. I sure fooled them, eh?

I love the fact that they directly disobey the fuzz...bust me and I'll come back and do it again......lol. Sorry but I respect that huge. It's civil disobedience that got us here is the first place. Any solder who sticks his chest out to be skewered directly in a cops face is good folks to me.
Keep it up boys.
Show them the middle finger. We've all had enough of this persecution bullshit.....
