As in all things electrical, if it is not 100% safe, then it is 0% safe.

I would refrain from using it till the replacement arrives.

you'll be fine to use it as is, the ceramic cover is only insulation.

i have one the same that has been working fine for 4 years, on it's 6th set of bulbs and it hasn't killed me yet.

So would I be right in beliving the ceramic is there for heat insulation on electrical insulation ?

i think it's for heat but it could be both, once the bulb is fitted and both ends are ducted in what risk could it pose?

like i said i have one with the exact same issue, it hasn't caused me problems, i also have an open fixture for my cfl that has the same problem, i dropped it and shattered the ceramic cover but i still use it without getting a shock.

go to your local grow shop and buy another mogul socket for 10.00. problem solved and no worry about starting your crib on fire.

so you're gonna have a spare reflector but no ballast or bulb, what do you plan to do with it?

spare parts and im to much of a hoarder to throw anything I could use again away xD but more than likely get another ballast and set of bulbs to use for my clones xD

a word of warning: i have always had the best success with cloning under flourescent lighting. whenever i used a 600 hps they would take weeks to come through and be a lot less healthy than the cuts under cfl. spare parts are always a blessing but how about 1200w to flower under instead of 600w, crosslighting is an amazing thing!

By crosslighting are you suggesting I should use 2 600 w lights one having a mh and the other hps ?

And a question about cloning I was thinking of turning a cupboard into a clone room would tube fluros work for this ?

If you touch the exposed metal you will get one hell of a shock, I've done it. Hurt like hell I didn't feel right for hours afterwards.

As in all things electrical, if it is not 100% safe, then it is 0% safe.

I would refrain from using it till the replacement arrives.

Best advice you could get right there.

I got a fairly cheap hydrofarm hood off amazon for like 120 ish. I had to rewire it to fit my ballast but it's a really good unit.

crosslighting as in two lights yes, could be mh/ hps or whatever combo you feel, the point i was making is that the point were the two lights over lap will give you some amazing buds. a clone cabinet is a great idea, like i said earlier they prefer a different environment to the mature plants so giving them a dedicated area is a great idea

as for electric shocks from appliances, do you not have it earthed? in the u.k every domestic appliance is earthed to prevent such shocks, like i said i have never had a shock from one and i'm not the most careful of people

well looking at the back of it after I unscrewed it there is 3 wires red / black and yellow and green one the red and black connect into back of the light and then the green and yellow earths itself on the metal frame on the cool tube that doesnt seem safe at all to me
