First time doing hydro. Using a simple DWC. Doing 4 nets in a rubbermaid. How many airpumps and stones are neccasary? I have a dual outlet pump and i got a 8 inch and a 12 inch stone. Along wit that about 6 1 inch stones. There is a lack of bubbles. Its not doing shit. Any guys out there that would throw me a few tips on how and what to do/get. I want some hottub jets in there.

Mine usually looks like this with 3 10-12 inch airstones and pumps from wal-mart. This is 5gal of water in a 10gal tub. Works great for me. =)

I also had the issue with four 14" stones in an 18 gallon Rubbermaid not doing enough, so I said screw the Rubbermaid and got some five gallon buckets and some new crazy airstone (the coolest one in the world).

Check out my journal for the bubble cloner I built today, it's got all the pics (I've gotta go hop in the shower).

I run one dual outlet pump into one airstone by using a "T" fitting, because I've noticed with those Wal-Mart pumps that air only comes out "good" from one of the sides, so I combine the output into one stream before running it through the airstone.

Good luck.

Thankyou for the quick replies
Bob Smith are you saying that the air only comes out well from one of the airpumps, or one of the sides on the T. Asking this because i used T's to connect everything but it only comes out a couple of them well

For me, I use the cheapo $10 Wal-Mart dual outlet air pumps, and I've found that when connecting an airstone to each outlet, one of them invariably doesn't produce many bubbles.

To solve this, I use a "T" to turn the dual outlets into one single outlet and run that into a micro bubble air stone, thereby ensuring that I get good "bubblage".

Let me know if that clears it up for you.

A robust airpump like this http://www.discount-hydro.com/productdisp.php?pid=412&navid=8 on 3 or 4 12 inch stones is a good investment. Don't skip on the bubbles, they are how you can control the level of feeding to your netpots, along with water level. Of the aquarium type stones, the ones that are all stone rather than stone laid in plastic are best. I get 12 inch ones at Meijer for $3. When you hold your hand a few inches above the water, you should feel the bubbles breaking on it. Another way to check bubble action is to load a netpot with hydroton and rockwool or rapid rooter but no seed. Leave it in awhile and then open it up to check wetness. Start with water 1-2 inches below the bottom of the netpot. If you have good bubbles, raise water a little to make it wetter, lower it to make it less wet.

Thankyou For the replies again.

I have no more money to spend. Just bought the new 1000 watter, and all other goodies.

Has ANYONE has success with using say 2 cheap pumps from walmart for each tote. I was going to have a stone under each net.

My ressovoir looks like the Picture posted but i've showed my ressovoir to friends and all say thats not enough bubbles. As soon as i can im going to buy a ALITA 17LPM pump and run two rubbermaid totes off it. For now ill have to work with what i bought or do dirt...which i dont want to.
